how did you manage that?
Issue with a warranty repair/fix which ultimately saw me without my car for over a month.

The dealer was excellent and on it non stop though. Most of the wait was from updates from the factory in Germany which wasn't the dealers fault.

They were the ones who pushed for compensation for me from Porsche GB.

I'm happy with their offer so I can't complain now.

Scouring the ads for a Cayman R at the moment, one down at Targa Florio looks class but think it has been at the Porsche Experience at Silverstone and will have been caned within an inch of its life!

Got a test drive in the new Cayman S this weekend and look at the two Rs up in Aberdeen.

The Rs are all pricey and have been looking since the start of the year and they are sticking around at these prices!

The Aberdeen ones are relatively recent on the stock list (I believe the grey one is SOR) but most of the others have been on there since early Feb. The white one at Nottingham was priced at £42K when it first appeared. So don't be afraid to make an offer and see what they say. wink

I paid a lot more that that for mine, but when you look at spec the only car I liked for sale anywhere was at an OPC and £48k, plus done 30k miles. none on PH are the right spec imo hence not selling.
(edit to add another silver one on OPC used cars now VERY nice spec but £49k at 28k miles.)

some times you just have to pay to play if you want one with the right bits and buy it unseen.
The right R's are selling fast, the one I looked at before had a que of people and sold in 1 day.

very hard to find one with the BIG 4 let alone the nice to have 8 ! impossible to have the dream 11 items , then you might want BOSE ,PCM etc

big 4 imo for resale, a car will sell if it has these 4 items, in fact most cars sell off line, my new car was NOT advertised.

Manual (yes a few want PDK but on the whole people are now after manual R''s) means you can get a deal on a PDK though and way more choice.
Buckets
Spyder wheels
AC

the next 4 are
PSE
Sports crono (again nice on both models does make a change on PDK change , can be retro fitted for £800, I like the faster throttle though it gives)
SS (paddles if PDK over buttons)
Blue tooth (should be law in any car, yes I do answer a phone it's a must have for me anyway)

the dream 3 big money extras and very rare.
Leather dash
PCCB just to get the bigger calipers
Xenons

then what's left:
PCM, well the cars old now, the PCM is the older item, you can take it or leave it on older cars imo
Bose works well once adjusted.
rear park
cup holders (my old car did not have them the new one has, I do use cup holders as it happens and the new owner of my car has act fitted some oem ones)

all nice trinkets but that's about it, circa 40 UK cars made with the main 4 items I would guess, so not a lot of choice if you want to pick a load more extra's
my new cars less spec than my older one, but you just have to go with what's for sale some times ,it had the main 8 items on my list+ trinkets, but no dream items, it would be nice to have one dream item lol
on the plus side it's 20k miles and is a minter, where 30k miles is quite common place on the R as it's so usable.

have fun hunting ;-) it's not easy

Interesting stuff about the Autofarm Cayman RS
I drove your car when Autofarm where building my track day 996 back in '09/'10.

Very cool car that was.

Like my 996 that I sold for £12k... Always best to buy these modified cars after idiots like me have paid to build them!

I am sure there will be a good few modified Caymans on the market over the next few years.

I am going to buy you one for your birthday, you have a hard on for the GT3 MC and yet WILL NOT buy one 3 years on !!

Even the SVP tuned car you tested did not have one, so you are still yet to drive a car with one fitted ;-)

Better to fix the real issue than mask it with pushing more fluid round the system, but hay let's not go there.
Even the 6 potted CCB car does not have the GT3 MC fitted !!! although there is a mid size one for the 6 pots, so Porsche seem to know what to fit size wise.

Yes, always seems best to let someone else take the initial hit ! That said I've merrily ploughed a load more cash into the car that will never be reflected in its value. My guess is that the initial cost of the car plus the money spent on modifications since would very comfortably have bought you a new GT3 back in 2006 ! Who said these things make sense.......
I'd like to think that I took up from where Autofarm left off and have taken it to a logical conclusion (or close to it - with the fitment of a half cage, under-drive pulley, and some stiffer engine and transmission mounts I will be pretty much there).
Interestingly there was another black Gen2 Autofarm-modified Cayman that came onto the market at the same time I bought mine. The detail was a bit light as it was with a non-specialist dealer in Wimbledon, but I think someone got a blinding bargain on that car.

In all honesty the only bit that is specifically track-biased is the suspension. Interestingly Autofarm didn't touch it at all - leaving the standard PASM. The KWv3 is much more compliant than I imagined it would be on road(and it's not even backed-off to soft settings). I suppose the brakes are overkill for a car that wouldn't be tracked much, however.
My guess (and it's only a guess) is that the standard brakes should be perfectly good enough for mild track use with a bit of GT3 ducting, RS29 pads and SRF fluid. Without wishing to get drawn into the GT3 master cylinder carry-on, my personal preference is for a very solid but progressive pedal with as little travel as possible. The set up on my car gives me that and is well set for heel and toe. Having never driven the standard set up I can't comment on the improvement, but I like it as it is. It has a similar pedal feel to my 964 RS, and is much better than my Mo30 968 CS (which stopped very well but had a long pedal-throw).

Ended up with the brother-in-law to look at the OPC manual Cayman R (Mmmm) and he spots a 2014 Cayman S PDK for almost the same money and need to understand the 'Why is a 2011 Cayman the same price as a 2014 Cayman?' I gave up after ten minutes frown

Useful summary - is this the most spec sensitive car ever or what ?! Personally, I'd take PSE over AC but I can't argue with the market. Is SS short shift ? I notice that you don't mention colour - does that just come down to personal preference ? By an absolute fluke (I did no research beforehand and just bought on condition, mileage and colour - white), I seem to have a low mileage car with your magic 8. Reading your comments, this must be one of only a few dozen similar cars. Might rethink my plans to take it to the Nurburgring this year and tuck it away .....!

My old Cayman S (now owned by Friday Passions on here) is pdk but has all 11, can't be many like that out there.

+1 a very useful summary

I bought my R last Autumn and look forward to using it this Spring/Summer - my car ONLY has 6 of the 8 'must have' options, it's missing SS and Bluetooth, although I intend to get SS retro fitted shortly. My car additionally has, Xenons ( a must have IMO ), Bose, and an Alacantra steering wheel. I personally believe colour is very important, which is why I chose my car, it's a PTS colour Porsche (Viper) Green which I'm led to believe is the only one in the UK.

If anyone knows the part number for the OEM short shift please add it to the thread

I would have thought for the cayman main items would be

Short shift
Chrono
Manual
Pse
Buckets
Wheels
A/C

For Boxster spyder

Manual
Short shift
Bucket
Wheels
Chrono
Seats
Pse

Nothing else required apart from this. Of course mats, aux in etc fair play, but from a weight to original concept to livable motor scenario i think the above is ideal.
