I don’t know if I’ll get one (not got the car yet) but although I love the sound of the JCR at 12 grand it’s crazy for and exhaust

I’d likely go for the 9m one which is 2 grand in stainless, see what Twinfan thinks of v2.

I’m really hoping like my old 981 after some hard track driving and a load of miles it gets a lot louder on its own. After 25k my 981 was actually verging on too loud once all the silencer material disintegrated.

JCR is £10k+ for the full system, just the silencer is £5k-ish I think.

The OEM silencer does get louder with use and it sounds good - I'd be quite happy with it stock to be honest if I had to keep it that way. I personally wanted a bit more drama and racecar-ness though.

The main thing to be aware of is that the new 4.0 won't ever sound like the old 3.4 or 3.8, whatever you do. It's always going to sound different and be its own thing.

You don’t ‘need’ the full JCR system, the full package isn’t road legal anyway... as it deletes cats + OPFs.
So you don’t have to worry about £10 or £12k.
But it is totally modular and the various parts are directly interchangeable and compatible with OEM... so you can mix and match what you want.

BCfabs is another UK company that has solutions for the 718 4.0.

The exhaust valve mod has been on my list of things to do for ages, I keep forgetting to get round to doing it! I think I'd probably be happy with the valve controller.

Easy enough to do and cheap!

By the way, watch how you drive around your way. A mate of mine got in touch with me last night as he thought I'd changed the reg on my car. I don't want you giving me a bad name wink

Oh not a complaint I hope! I am actually pretty well behaved on the road.

I have noticed a couple of people waving at me and I'm thinking - do I know that person? hehe

Nope, not a complaint at all. They were just wondering if it was me they saw...

I think there may be more RY GT4's in the local area because it happens quite often when I'm out that someone waves... or they could just be giving me the coffee beans.

Anyway, to get back on topic do you think 9M will fit the valve controller for me?

No reason why not! Give Pete a call and I'm sure he'll book you in.

Do you actually need the controller? You could just plug the vacuum valves and re-fit them either yourself or get 9m to do it. Unless you really need the exhaust as quiet as possible at the push of a button of course...

Good point! I would like to retain the OEM functionality, but I think I will just do the valve mod myself first, actually. See what difference it makes.

Sharkwerks sadly have no plans as far i'm aware to release anything for the 718 GT4/Spyder...

But UK based Milltek have now completed development on the 718 GT4 / Spyder / 4.0 GTS and we hope to have prices on these within the next few weeks. Would expect these to be around £1,000 - £1,500 price point but don't hold me to that just yet...

Will post on here once prices are announced.

That would be good if they can produce something at a reasonable price. Others are overpriced IMO.

I actually did the valve mod today, was really straightforward, didn't need to jack the car up or anything (although that would have probably made it much easier), took about 20-30 mins of fumbling and swearing under the car, probably a 5-10 minute job if you're competent.... Not had a chance to take the car for a drive though frown

Let us know what you think. I think it's a good easy to way to get a touch 'more' if that's what you're looking for.

I'm just waiting to hear if my updated silencer will be back from the fabrictors this week in time for fitment on Monday morning...

Honestly, I find the drone quite annoying, and I don't really like it. I miss hearing the other sounds the drone around 2-3k now blocks out, intake noise etc. I'm going to put it back to stock tomorrow. I find the frequency at which it resonates around 2.5k RPM very irritating.

Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained smile, perhaps full header system including GPF delete is the way to go, but not something I think I'd do.

Interesting observations. I have done the 50P grubscrew mod to my Spyder and the results are brilliant. I love the noise now, and I would not want it any louder, it’s just perfect. I don’t get any drone or at least I don’t notice it. I wonder if it’s a GT4 closed cockpit issue. For me I love the linearity of it relative to throttle position and revs. I would never go back to standard.

It's definitely a closed cockpit issue. If you're running with the roof down the resonance is gong to be far less of an issue.

My car will also be back to standard on Monday, the PSE is getting fixed. We're waiting on inconel supplies so my updated 9m silencer will be another few weeks, unfortunately.

Bet you're glad you didn't bother with the valve controller now wink

How many miles on your Spyder? I am going to pop the lines off the valves and go for another run tomorrow with them still plugged and see if it makes any difference, perhaps some vacuum was getting through, and I want to be sure.

It’s just on 5000miles and about 1000 with the grub screws in the vac pipes. One thing I have noticed is that it’s definitely got louder as it’s loosened up. As I said I would not want it any louder than it is now, I get just enough head turn and stare as I can handle. Driven on a light throttle it’s quiet enough for discrete progress where required. There are no pops and bangs which I am happy with.
One other thing is that on cold start it is still noisier for a few seconds and then quietens down, presumably there is another flap somewhere else that closes once the cat or the filter is warm enough to work?
