I wanted a GT3 (dont we all), however had missed the boat on them - 996 GT3s were about £38k when id last looked. Subsequently i looked at all sorts of "affordable" 911s from cheap 996 Carreras, RPM CSR package cars and 997.2S. They all didnt feel special enough to me. Lovely as they were, they were all a bit too normal. Added to that, i didnt want a 996 turbo as i just dont like the way they drive and feel a bit of numb and blunt instrument.
Nothing was of interest unless it was a GT3 lol. It had to be RWD, manual, NA and special.
A Cayman was never even on the cards for me, to me a Cayman was a swear word.

Interesting that. What a convert!

For me so far, its all the other way round. I started with so little knowledge of anything Porsche and just read reviews. That`s whats fueled the conviction that I`m after an R. I`ve yet to drive one though! To be honest slightly thinking to have two big cars on the drive might be a bit excessive, bet I do it though. Just maybe not yet. In fact I went into a bike shop today to order an electric bike!! So much quicker round town smile

Did you book that driving holiday for this summer?

The R is definitely a special car, Did 150 miles in mine this morning and it really is a cool little car.

It's not as loud or quite as fast as my 997 GT3 was but I really don't feel like I need any more.
The handling is sublime and it definitely feels lighter and more compact than the GT3 did, in fact getting back in the 996 C4S afterwards made the 996 cabin feel rather large and the car a little numb by comparison. And my 996 is far from numb in reality, just the sharpness of the R
really shows.

I had Giro discs and DS2500 pads fitted today, still bedding them in but definitely a fair bit more bite on the brakes, more than enough for my road use.

they will take a bit of bedding in, once you have heat cycled the disks a bit you need to try and get some pad transfer with 3 or 4 big 120 to 60 mph stops.

pics though please :-)

While analysing the market in the process of selling my almost-CR-specced-CS I'm surprised to see how strong CR prices are at the moment.

Is a CR really ~£10k better than an equivalent age/condition/spec CS?

This is a genuine question BTW, I'm not trying to cause controversy.

yes £15k better I would say ;-) , but when they hit £50k the 997.2S comes into play at the same costs.

imo sub 30k miles perfect spec cars are £45k cars and are rock stable at that. above that I would be buying 997.2 C2S and tweaking that.
Best car at £45k though for sure.

I see your point about the C2S coming into play @ £50k.

I wonder if anyone has gone the other way and tweaked a CS to CR spec (not just wheels and aerokit, but increase in HP too and added lightness), this would be achievable for mid £35k ish if the right car was found. I guess you lose the 'specialness' of a genuine CR tho.

as the wheels are £5k and the buckets £8k it's not doable really, sus is £2.5k aero kit £2.5k the list goes on PSE £2.5k etc etc

add in alloy GT3 doors and bonnet over steel the R is a very cheap car with the right spec.

987.2S were cheaper than CRs when I bought mine. I tried one and didn’t like it as much.
Don’t like those horrid LED lamps either frown

That's assuming you start from zero spec, starting with the right car would be cheaper!:

Cheers!

Spec is:

19" Black Gloss Wheels, Folding Carbon Fibre Buckets, Sports Steering Wheel, Auto Dimming Mirrors with Rain Sensor, BOSE Surround Sound-System, Sport Exhaust, Sport Chrono Package Plus, Satellite Navigation, Porsche Communication Management, Alcantara rooflining, Universal Audio Interface, Rear Wiper, Bluetooth

No A/C which bothered me at first but I've resolved myself to 'winding' windows down hehe

Awesome, sounds lovely. I must admit i never really took much to the black CRs initially, but ive seen a few more of them recently and am really warming to them in black They look so purposeful.

PDK?
