I think that's unlikely, personally. The current Cayman platform is over 10 years old now and is going full electric so the factories will be re-tooled accordingly. Plus we've seen the GT4 e-Performance concept knocking about which makes me think the Cayman will be the Porsche electric sports car pioneer leaving the 911 to continue as long as possible with petrol and probably hybrid.

In addition, the manual gearbox has gone as far as it can power wise so any future cars would have to be PDK only, and given the popularity of the manual in the US I think that's an unlikely sell to the marketing department.

Finally, we've also got the GT4RS and imminent Spyder RS with GT3 engines which I think are a clear sign of "end of line for petrol" to get sign off from marketing.

All IMHO of course, but I think maintaining a petrol Cayman or Boxster on the exisiting platform is a bit of a no-go as is getting funding for a replacement.
Yep T and Oliver Blume confirmed 12 months ago the next Cayster due in 2025 will definitely be electric and there have been quite a few spyshots since.

Be interesting to see how prices firm up again as they always do now approaching Spring and warmer weather especially given the number of used decent spec GT4s available is falling and with the backdrop of 'essential' option shortages on the last few cars with a final price rise likely too.
Julian & 4RS will be frothing at the mouth. biglaugh

For those wanting PDK, Buckets and PCCB, this has popped up this morning at West London OPC. Registered Oct 2022 and seemingly only a handful of miles (93 shown in the pics) on the clock. No PDLS+ or CS, but it is PDK and does have Buckets, PCCB, Custom orange stitching and PDLS, all for circa list...

I like the contrast door handles. If you select all the other black exterior pieces I think it really works. I specced them on mine.

sorry if off-topic, but curious JackWood how this compares to your old 996 GT3. Would you ever go back, is the engine a bit of a let-down Vs a Metzger or not at all?

Hi,
Good question. The performance of the engine isn’t a let down at all. But the rawness (especially with the LWFW and clutch I had, plus Cup diff etc etc) of the old engine was very special. Just the noise, the chuntering, the whole mechanical experience of it.
Obviously it was a handful of a car as well, but that also added to the occasion.
The newer cars are a lot easier to live with, and crucially for me, I don’t have to worry about big impending and inevitable bills (my friend who still has his 996.1 has had to have a full engine and then gearbox rebuild). So the new car brings a lot of peace of mind.
But yes, given the finances and space I absolutely have one back in the garage. Just not sure I’d take one over the newer car if I had to pick just one.

That seems a very honest and fair assessment. I have had both and it boils down to a bit more thrilling vs a bit easier to live with. Very interesting question given prices are not miles apart, just depends on what you are looking for and what you plan to do with the car.

Yes they do work quite well with the other black bits. Someone else obviously agrees as it appears to be sold already!

Based on what's disappearing on the OPC network, it looks like PCCB+bucket cars are starting to get snapped up (regardless of transmission). End of line production and parts availability seems to be filtering down to the market perhaps.

Also the last PDK+Buckets+PCCB car has now gone. So in the used network there are now no PDK+PCCB+Bucket cars available...

I think that's a good sign for residuals if you have a good spec one.

My 718 Spyder has similartappetynoises - seems to be getting quieter as the miles are puton
Mine has this noise, when trundling at constant throttle under 2000 revs (before anyone gasps - I am talking 1st/2nd gear...)

The noise disappears completely if I open the throttle or completely lift off the throttle.

My description is exactly that "tappety noises"
Just to come back on this. Seems it is normal according to OPC which is good news.

I think you're right. Decent spec cars appear to be disappearing quickly. It's going to be interesting to see how the market adjusts as we head into summer and beyond with the lack of parts and the apparent end of production...

21 plate, PDK, Buckets, Leather Dash, PDLS+, £103k... gone this morning.

I think these sales are probably all people like me on the wait list. The end is nigh for the car we can't get a decent spec one. I have come close to pulling the trigger but only really put the desposit down as I was assured by the dealer I would get one. They weren't wrong technically but I guess Porsche knew they would have a load of boggo ones to shift hence the deposit pool being opened up. Its a bit pants but I'm not about to do a Harris over it.

I'll leave my dipper in but have decided to invest elsewhere if the GT4 doesn't come to fruition. Its an awesome time to be buying up old Sports and performance cars so I have bought a Megane Trophy R 300 and looking for an Exige. If the GT4 does come there will be a cheap Megane and Exige for sale! Exciting times either way.

Will be interesting to see how leaving the dipper in for the new car would work. Would P value the length of time the dipper is in over new buyers coming in with more buying history?

2 more gone over the weekend. Both 2019 cars and IMO no co-incidence both have buckets/PCCB/PDLS+/Leather-dash...

Yep no surprise as usual this time of year prices are on the up yet again those 2019 cars would have been early £70ks list basic. Expect continued strengthening of prices as Spring progresses and the pool of decent spec and mileage cars reduces especially with the continuing spec option shortages.

AV this is the first time you have actually been right about pricing on cars. I detected that the 718 cars were a bit underpriced through this winter. I still have my deposit in but changed my mind I think with buying a used one I have a couple of Lotus investments I'm looking to make instead. If the new Porker turns up fine if not I think a lightly used one is still just about a bit of a bargain. The ones with about 2k on the clock seem to be the most sensible buys being under list. Will be really interesting to see what they do with the next one. That could light a fire underneath values.

I sold my car which was very similar to this apart from the ceramics to a opc who then sold it end of last summer for £112k, goes to show the drop in pricing since last summer. This would have been a 115k retail car last summer.
