I know I said this earlier but I’ve now done lots more miles with my roof off & my JCR titanium race pipe fitted - I can’t tell you the difference it’s made to the car sorting out the sound - revolutionises the whole package - I now absolutely love this car it’s epic !
I can’t suggest strongly enough that if you can, you really should add one of these.
Sorry - will not mention it again
Would it be legal on most track days now though? If not, defeats the object of the car somewhat (GT4 anyway) ...I can’t suggest strongly enough that if you can, you really should add one of these.
Sorry - will not mention it again
It’s significantly louder than stock but not loutish loud - just a very nice deep sounding sonorous thing

Placed my order yesterday... can’t wait

Is it as loud as the 981 Spyder's
I'd say not quite - but not far off. It actually sounds very different - the 981 is a very loud slightly unsubtle thing, with lots of fake pops and bangs. The 718 with JCR is slightly quieter but with what I'd describe as a very real , bassey, deep sound - both sound epic, but they are different. I would say the later car sounds more grown up if that makes sense ? One thing it has done is completely changed my perception of the engine - before it sounded weak and whiney - now it sounds incredible and feels like a really strong engine (I realise the engine hasn't changed - but driving the car sounds so different it makes you feel like its got a completely different engine)
I realise I'm not making any friends here - but I do feel quite evangelical about it as it has completely transformed the car - I can't stop driving it (under current restrictions) & whenever I do, I'm grinning from ear to ear - it reminds me of how I felt about my 981 Spyder, which as you know, I loved and thought was a brilliant car (& still is)
I think the effect will be better in the Spyder than the GT4 for obvious reasons.
Either way - I'm boring myself - so no more exhaust chat from me
Backbox replacement is defo worthwhile on the Spyder.
With the top down you get the greater impact of the change.
Dan Prosser called this out in his review of the cars that the Spyder was more adversely affected by OEM noise, so defo will get the bigger benenfit to the driver… especially as this is Road focussed, so you want a bit more drama.
For the GT4, it’s a utensil for track… you won’t really care about noise as much so long as can get under the designated noise limit for the day.

Love to hear it someday.
Like you I love my 981 and sometimes I just want to make a lot of noise (as I did at 10pm last night...on a B road blast). At other times it’s nice just to dial it back and have a cruise :-)
Enjoy

One more question if you don't mind talking some more - When the JCR is OFF, which i realise might be never as that's how I drive my Spyder ON 24/7, what does the car sound like in that mode and when it's "ON" how does JCR cope with the restricted rev range the valves are now actually open compared to the 981's set up Either way - I'm boring myself - so no more exhaust chat from me

Nice one - the more I use it the more i like it - I really hope you do too or I'm in a lot of trouble !! Placed my order yesterday... can’t wait
Reading your raving posts has just got me even more excited!! And I’ve had a good chat with Jonny to discuss it all - nice guy, patient for all my questions, and so far a great company to deal with.
I’ve gone for the non-silenced version for a little bit more noise... it’s going to be a long wait!!

Ok - as I understand it the exhaust mod works in exactly the same way as the OEM one does from a valve perspective. This is what I know ; with SE off the valves open immediately on start up and close virtually as soon as you move off and then, depending on throttle response they open at about 4,500 revs. With the SE on it’s exactly the same, only that the valves open about 800 revs earlier - JCR makes no difference to this.
In truth it sounds, so natural / good even when the valves are closed that it doesn’t make that much difference to me (I felt this was similar with my 981 Spyder - I actually preferred driving it with the SE off in the end as I liked the way the noise built and I grew tired of the fake overrun after a while.) However, stationary if you rev the engine with the JCR pipe on you can really hear the difference when the SE is on.
My mod is referred to as the Titanium Silenced race pipe. I believe there is even less difference with the SE on and off on the unsilenced version but with the SE on, the two JCR versions then sound virtually identical)
Hope this helps

Many thanks for the clarification and out of interest why didn't you go for the "unsilenced" version or is their a price hike on that version My mod is referred to as the Titanium Silenced race pipe. That sounds fantastic.I had a Boxster loan car last week from my OPC....obv a great week to be driving around in a soft top. I did think to myself how good it would be to have a 718 Spyder right now ! Especially that sounds like that. Good representation of JCR sound on 718 Spyder on the move

Oh dear that does sound rather crisp. You are a very bad man RSVP911.Good representation of JCR sound on 718 Spyder on the move
I do love my Spyder, who wouldn’t in this weather but not for the reasons I expected to when I bought it.
For me it’s just not a Porsche GT car, it’s far to smooth, comfortable and civilized. Doesn’t feel very quick, awful gearing, a bit detached from the driving experience. What it is is a brilliant rag top sports car, for me the best I’ve ever had, it looks sublime, fantastic with the top down, cracking stereo, smooth, comfortable and civilized what the heck is not to like..... oh hang on
So do I spunk the thick end of £5K on a lovely exhaust note, which no doubt makes it a bit more PorscheGT car like. Or enjoy it for what it is and use something else for my more visceral kicks?
First world problems and all that.

JCR have announced their OPF delete pipes today.... these pipes completely replace the over the axle pipes that include the OPF filter, with titanium straight through pipes... currently in test in a number of regions to cover the various configurations of the car as shipped to meet regs, and also apparently without requiring any kind of remap.
Looks like they could be used on their own with the OEM back box, and of course in conjunction with the JCR titanium back box replacement pipes.
