Thanks rkwm1 for your opinions and for reading my post as I intended it to be.

I also thank Bigmowley for his measured and educated response to my post. You are actually making it more likely that R8 would be next car rather Porsche Flat6 engines

Well for Slippydiff throwing cheap insults, that is your problem and Cossers cashing in, I am not surprised, he has the habit of stalking me on the forum.

The data from fastestlap.com as in the below would also support that 4RS is faster than R8 on tracks and in straight lines.

https://fastestlaps.com/comparisons/j3drruend4i1

And on track as in the below:

I suspect that you are very much a numbers person LamedomM. I suspect that you place much emphasis on empirical data rather than more emotional and subjective measures.

My posting only refers to my R8 and my RS and my choice going forwards. it’s not meant as a comparison of R8s and 4RSs in general. Just my particular circumstance. There is no doubt that the 4RS is a fascinating car which will split opinion. However the R8 especially in the UK is a very underrated platform with a superb V10 engine.

Good speed .

FYI, fastestslaps.com references the previous generation R8 which came on a P Zero not a Cup2.

I have rechecked with Zeperf with latest iteration of R8 V10 performance

You are quite right it is very very low. The front splitter is an Audisport part and is a lovely high gloss carbon fibre. Which is almost always cracked. I’ve had it repaired twice already. banghead
I had nose lift on the RS and it was brilliant. Not available on the Motorsport coilovers on the R8 unfortunately.
My R8 on the corner weight scales is 1550Kgs with half a tank of fuel and no driver. I think it’s about 100Kgs heavier than the 4RS. One of my winter jobs is to see if I can get a bit of weight out of the R8 without spoiling it.
I thought a RWD only, would be way say 80kg or so lighter then the AWD R8, but it seems not, here are also the Dutch empty weight numbers what you get in your car-card, they always mention 2 weights one empty weight and one + 100 kg, here are the empty weights.

audi R8 V10 RWD = 1565 kg from 2017 onwards models
audi R8 V10 AWD = 1570 kg
Lambo Gallardo LP570 Superleggera = 1340 kg from 2010 onwards model

https://www.autoweek.nl/auto/vergelijk/93118-87010...

so the Lambo Superleggera is more then 200kg lighter then those 2 Audi R8, not that it is faster on a circuit, but it is faster in a straight line, wonder how they drive, difference between such Gallardo Superleggera or the Audi R8

edit, its also lighter and lower then a GT4 RS

it sounds indeed very light for a AWD V10 car, but even if the real weight of a Superleggera LP 570 is say 100kg more the advetised, then its still a lot lighter then its familie the later R8 V10

Except that I would rather keep my very modified 981 GT4 than add £100k to this in order to step into a GT4RS that Porsche do not want to sell me.
Thats why I started to look at the GT4 MR....... which is another slightly curved ball.

Can highly recommend if you want your GT4 honed for track and actually it works really well on the road too, if you just open the valves a couple clicks.

Will try to help if you have any Q's

I think they usually quote dry weights.

Thanks , thats very kind. I missed the Brands day RPM did as I was busy so missed out having a drive and I have now set my sights on a replacement GT3. Never say never because you never know what is round the corner. I may still come knocking !

Thank you Bigmowley and others for your responses

Summing up things: the sweet spot (engine response, sounds and transmission) for R8 would be 2006 to 2015 R8 5.2 FSI coupé (with a V10 engine) and if not manual with s-tronic transmission or is it 2018 one?

Wow.

Did it increase/improve the sound below 4.5K rpm? Any video of yours to watch with the 718? I remember there was one for your 981.

Thanks

MR kit is suspension, aero and brakes.
No exhaust or drive train parts.

That was a superb drive. Am I correct in thinking you lapped both 2 other GT Porsches?

Great to see, nice driving smile

I just looked up best lap times at Castle Comb and with Jason Plato driving a 718 GT4 he was only 0.9s slower than driving a GT4RS ... and his magic time in the GT4 was 1.12.6 ...

The law of diminishing returns applies ... no matter so long as one is having fun, the learning is in the journey. I firmly believe that fun on track leads to less hoon on the road smile

Haha. Yep. I’ve developed quite the appetite for munching on GT3 now.

Always have fun with these lads.
