It's an interesting car to spec, as there are so many things that should be on a £67k car that are missing, so I've added those and not gone for much else. I have removed the Alcantara, but I'm not sure about that at the moment.

It’s a personal choice if course, but I would keep the alcantara. My old 981 GTS was full leather, my new 4.0 is full GTS alcantara and in my opinion it really lifts the interior and makes it feel a bit more special.

Not knocking the leather - that’s great too

It’s a personal choice if course, but I would keep the alcantara. My old 981 GTS was full leather, my new 4.0 is full GTS alcantara and in my opinion it really lifts the interior and makes it feel a bit more special.

Not knocking the leather - that’s great too
I was also informed that the full GTS interior would help residual values moving forward given that most GTS models typically have black alloys, coloured dial and GTS interior. It may be sales flannel but it got me thinking.

Managed to get a test drive for Saturday, can’t wait.

All being well will then order. As I will jointly own with my 70 year old dad, we will be going PDK and standard seats. Going Carmine Red. Gentian Blue looked great in the showroom, not so good in the daylight I thought.

Seems odd to some degree to order a GTS and not take advantage of the exclusive options available only to this model. I get that you are getting the engine above an S or a T, but as it stands that will be a challenging sellable spec should you ever come to sell it…but if it’s a keeper for a decade or more/forever then go for it.

Personally at that budget I’d get a well specced T instead

The T holds no interest for me at all, this car is all about the engine in my eyes. I'm torn on the leather vs Alcantara, but I don't see the point of the GTS package personally.

Still, at the moment I have until December to decide, and I'm sure that's going to slip somewhat.

Sure, I've sat in one with it and I used to have a Boxster that was full leather. I would be interested to see how the wheel ages with the Alcantara on, if it wears faster than the leather

No brainer that. But you can get the leather steering wheel still even though you have optioned the GTS pack

Im on the fence at the moment as whether to order a Cayman GTS 4.0 or a 992 Carrera (slightly more practical?). I think its refreshing to see people specifying their cars with fewer options, as quite frankly the amount of and cost of options has got rather insane in the past few years! A low specified car wont have any effect on the driving experience and after all one would assume the driving experience is what these cars should be all about.

I agree on the cost of the options, I'm buying the GTS as I want the engine, not because I want to spend money on colour coding my air conditioning panel to the exterior colour. I still think it's cheeky that they left off some basic stuff like cruise control and dual-zone AC.

I agree, and the more time has gone on, I think I find the GTS interior pack and all the contrast stitching way too fussy, I don't think I would spec it and save myself the near 3k!

I would have a 992 Carrera tomorrow if you could have it with a Manual now I have a little person I didn't have when speccing my Cayman. I saw Joe Achilles launched a bog standard one to 60 in 3.6 seconds.... do you really need more?

Have you driven both? I’ve owned a 997 and driven a 991 but not a 992. In the past I had the idea I would buy a new base 911 and keep it forever but after driving the Cayman, I instantly preferred the feel of it. However, I haven’t driven a 911/Cayman back to back and so it could be my mind playing tricks on me... would be interested for your view. Ideally I’d have a 911 for the rear seats but the 992 is maybe too big/expensive these days (and base is pdk only). However that is just my perception and so I’d like to hear from someone who has driven both.

I asked about whether a 992 Carrera T is coming (which could be a good alternative) when I was at the dealership but the guy there just said he knew nothing, which is probably unsurprising.

Agreed but when you drop your arse into it each morning you want to think 'this is a nice place' rather than 'saved myself a few quid here'

I would have thought the opposite. Gentian blue looks great in bright sunlight but to me looks flat in dull low lighting

I had a base 718 and considered both. In the end, I ordered a 992 Carerra though still waiting for it to be built. I was familiar with my 718 and preferred the 992 - rear seats are ideal for the dog, the interior is much nicer I think (718 looks dated) and for me, it was something different versus the last car.

I wouldn't get the GTS interior pack either. Been checking it out on the 911 and my lord it's a pricey option. The hit is less on a GTS but unlike the spyder /GT4 where leather dash is only 1.2k, it is a much pricier option.

Are plastics cheap? Maybe. But, perception of luxury is just that. it is not a lesser car by dint of performance. Just me, but i rather pay for colour

Not being controversial as I am torn re what to do re whether to have the GTS interior or not. Is the concern that the car is less desirable without it when in comes to selling it?

Unlike the previous 981 gts which imho was a tarted up S the 718 version is all about the engine not being like the regular S so the interior wont matter so much

How are you going to purchase it? If its PCP and you're only going to keep it for x amount of years, then you might not get top dollar for it the other side, but ultimately if you can just hand it back to the dealer at the trade in price of GFV and it'll be there problem not yours, spec if how you want it, not the next persons smile
