Please do keep us updated!
A Cayman R with 370 hp from a 3.4L seems like an incredible value proposition compared to the GT4 which is already decent in that department. As I don't spend much time on track wouldn't get much out of the increased mechanical grip and additional aero anyway.

Why did you renew Porsche Approved? Do you think they would do warranty work on your engine when they see a catless racing exhaust underneath? I highly doubt it...

No MOT if no cats just too much hassle and noise.

As for 981 easier to tune, the ecu is locked and no one has cracked it yet, so not easy to tune at all, he just puts a 911 map on it !

EBC yellow, well ditch them for a start :-)

:-) just sayin .

981 can be tuned, just not via the OBD. keep up at the back wink

he doesnt put a 911 map on it, the car wont work like that. he has a 991 GTS engine in a Boxster 981 now!

im not yet 100% decided on no cats, but its alot cheaper, 7-8 bhp extra and MOT is only every other year, can renew right before then slap it on. so its mighty tempting

Has the 981 ecu been cracked or not ? Or is the guy using a stock 991 map ?

MOT every year in the UK so swapping manafolds is a non starter for most. And then there is the legal issue.

I am lost then, but then it's not a 981 thread so don't want to go into too much detail on it.

Looked at the 1st 2 pages and last 2 pages did not see a solution bar a stock 991 map.

you cant flash a 981 with 991 software, it wont work.
From what I have gathered, they are flashing 981 S cars with modified GTS software ( up from 315 to 360ish from only a map) other mods on top of that bring it up to 370 and beyond.

But if the 981 code has not been cracked how do they mod a GTS map ?

They still wont get full throttle with the GTS map, probably running a little rich compared to the 991 as not to upset the mighty carrera smile

but with mods to manifolds and exhaust you can still get to 370+ in the 981 S... not to shabby

Have you contacted Racing Erich regarding the 987? I just noticed that he only deals with 991/981 cars according to his site.

Imagine a Boxster Spyder with 375 PS, 1275kg and an engine that sounds like this... keep your 981 GT4 and Spyder, thank you very much: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKmDj2vfbLksperm

That top end makes everything I've heard from the GT4 sound rather... anti-climatic. Crikey.

What do you guys do to your cars to need those ugly things? My R has done 30k miles now and the bolsters look like new
For me it's future proofing as the Sports Seats on my Turbo 3.6 wore on the bolsters. It may take a few more years but eventually they will wear. It also helps prevent damage from jeans rivets.
18k on mine and the previous owners had inflicted the beginnings of noticeable wear. Given the replacement OEM bit of leather is a ludicrous £500 per side, I figured these things were a good bet. In terms of aesthetics, it's not like the driver or anyone else spends an awful lot of time looking at the bolster so no real drama there.
