Take the grilles off before the 111pt check, get warranty, put them back on
I'm assuming they just un clip or unscrew easily enough

AFAIK, If the warranty hasn't actually elapsed ... OPC doesn't actually need to see the car and won't need 111-Check.

Mine hadn’t lapsed when I looked into renewing the warranty. I went into Colchester OPC to discuss. I was told there is a 30 day grace period after the warranty has lapsed to renew after which a 111 point check would be required to renew.
My warranty expired Feb 24th, renewed Mar 13th
The OPC did not see the car but below is what I was required to provide so a new warranty could be applied to the car, quoted from their email:

If you would like to extend your warranty, please forward photos by email as listed below and whether you would like to extend by one, two or three years with or without Porsche Assist and we will be pleased to extend your Porsche Approved Warranty for you.

Photos required by email:

  • Front and rear of your car with number plate visible.
  • Photo of stamps in service book
  • Photo of V5
  • Photo of speedo, for mileage purposes
I hope this information helps, please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Mines been in to Colchester for official diagnosis after the dreaded warning triangle on the dash.

Both of mine need relaxing and one is out of stock with Porsche and could take up to 6 weeks to arrive.

Still drives ok so it’s being used as normal.
Colchester are also my local OPC.

May I ask if this is covered under the Porsche warranty ?!
Yeah all under warranty

Update from my OPC -

Work on your GT4 is complete. I’m delighted to inform you that contrary to information I gave you when you dropped the car off I have had confirmation Porsche have updated the PADM mounts and the latest version has been fitted to your car on this visit.

The original, factory fitted part number was 98137505984 and the part number we have fitted is 98137505986.

I have now asked them whether the one they replaced last summer was the new part or the old part. What’s the bet it’s the old part…..?

mounts have failed 3 times on my 981

all replaced under warranty, together with some other minor (but costly) issues

luckily i've kept the warranty going on mine but that does mean i can't mod it or use non oem parts (e.g. brakes)

My 2021 Spyder has just joined this - not very exclusive - club at 9400 miles.

Booked in, mid June (loan car delay).

I assume that rear suspension will need to be freshly aligned?

I am keen to keep my CofG alignment intact if possible!

I am surprised that people say the failure is not noticeable - at low speeds and idling, the engine feels/sounds much "gruffer".

You are completely correct the car does not feel right - really rough!

Do complain to Porsche.. I got an warranty and if it’s financed complain as well that the car isn’t fit for purpose.. again I got a refund.

2 replacements for me.

Bought my 2013 981s 5 years ago with 26k miles, no record of them failing prior to that.

The first one failed after 3 years of ownership at ~32K miles, and the other went a couple of months ago at 36K miles.

I didn't really notice a difference in driving experience either time it happened. I love the concept and technology behind them, but it's overkill for my needs (I don't track), and If I didn't have a warranty, I'd probably swap them out for fixed mounts.

I read that although they are sealed units, the connector is not particularly well shielded, so a few splashes of water can kill the unit. I'll check if they've used an upgraded version when I pick it up next week.

Another to add to the list...2019 Spyder with circa 8k miles. Warning light popped up a couple of weeks ago and is booked into Parr for investigation and replacement mid June. No Porsche warranty but I do have an aftermarket warranty provided by the supplying dealer with a laughably low labour rate attached to it rolleyes
I'm sort of hoping that both are needed to be replaced with these new versions if possible. Love the car but Porsche do seem to get a bit of an easy ride on forums regarding inherent reliability issues when compared with certain other manufacturers hence why I'm happy to add to the list here!

Had my second PADM mount on my 981 replaced this week. It appears both may have failed at the same time on a club drive last summer when I went over a ridge.

I bought a replacement from my local OPC to fit myself but ended up getting my indy to fit it when they serviced the car in the autumn. They discovered both had failed but couldn't get another until a few weeks ago.

The latest one is yet another modified version, part number ending in 09 compared to the one I bought last summer ending in 08. Design 911's website suggests this is the 5th revision for the 981 since the original 04 version, though only the 04 is listed in the Porsche PET parts diagram.

I picked my 2021 Spyder up today after having both of them done. I swear there's more vibration at idle now. Will take for a proper run tomorrow to find out for sure.

Is it possible to fit them without disturbing the rear suspension?

I've done this job on my 986 but never on my 981. 981 suspension pic below. Do you see that massive plate which goes across the bottom. If you remove that you are supposed to get the alignment checked. I'd say that has to come off to get to the mounts. I removed it on my 986. There is no access from above. And from the side you have the drive shaft in the way. I also removed the drive shafts on my 986 but that's not really necessary if just doing mounts.

I'm not 100% but I think the mounts attach to those c shaped sections towards the top of this pic. So the mounts sit above or on top of those. Therefore those side members are supporting the mount and therefore the whole assembly. There was a recall to replace those on some 981 as a manufacturing fault had some cracking and then failing. Obviously that's a disaster if traveling at speed.
