[quote=User404notfound]Good morning,
Gentian blue PDK - Deposit paid in early July, PEC in Oct, locked in Nov and car was sat at Emden 15th Dec 21, which was ahead of schedule by about a week.
Despite asking PCS and dealer no-one could tell me how to actually track the build, any details have been gleaned via email and screen shots from the OPC.
Current unconfirmed status (down to me actually watching vehicle carrier shipping movements from Emden to Sheerness) - I think my car is due into sheerness today at 1200.
Did you get confirmation that it landed? I think mine is in that shipment! Good detective work.

Having owned a 981 GTS I know where you are coming from and was hesitant but took the plunge because the newer car is better in other areas and also wanted to spec my own as the two 981’s i owned were never 100% to my spec.
I think the main limitation with the sound of the GTS 4.0 is the fact the exhaust flaps close between 1800 and 4000 ish RPM for noise regs, the 981 GTS never did this and actually sounded at its best at low revs barking and crackling. This can be rectified with a cargraphic exhaust controller which i will be fitting to mine as soon as I get it.
From what I hear with aftermarket exhausts the engine fundamentally has quite a different sound to the 981 generation, less pops and bangs and less of a deep growl but much more top end excitement and GT3 esque noise in the final 1000RPM. The 981 GTS engine never came alive at the top end and was quite flat below 3000RPM whereas the GTS 4.0 has a lot more torque and an amazing top end.
Swings and roundabouts, dont buy the new car if you want it to sound like the old one I dont think it ever will, but with a few mods will sound very good (just different good)
Hope that helps?
My Boxster GTS 4.0 has done 7,000 miles. Its loud and and getting louder, and thats coming from a 981 GT4. Others are quite correct about the exhaust valves, a mic recording the exhaust tips won't get the best of it. Where as the GT4 was all bark, the GTS is pure induction noise. Its all the way through the rev range, but particularly in combo with the exhaust valves opening at 4000 when it becomes raucous as the GT4 just playing a different tune. It does a few very subtle crackles but rarely, only after a very hard drive. Its bassier rather than shrieking, but you need to keep it revving and give it some load, then after a few seconds it takes on a further deeper tone. Its so loud that when it was last in for its tracker reset.. the OPC asked whether it has an aftermarket exhaust! I think it also sounds better on V Power too. So personally I'd keep it entirely stock as its cultured when it needs to be and supercar when you want it to be. Thanks for the insight @shost. When driving the GTS 4.0 on the PEC track in Silverstone, I felt that I had just the right part of the orchestra playing along the full range of RPM… can’t wait to receive the vehicle.BoxCube said:
Anyone else notice the configurator has changed. A special pre-configured option comes up first, however when you try to do a personal configuration, lots of options are now missing such as Bose, folding mirrors, reverse camera and two zone climate?
Just looked. I can see reverse camera and two zone climate but yes no Bose and no folding mirrors. RTA3 said:

However Bose is available under the Special Pre-configurations: 718 Cayman GTS 4.0. Very odd. Hope it is an error as I want Bose and indeed folding mirrors and all being well should get an allocation soon.BoxCube said:
No idea when my car will get allocated yet! Though those options were on my order. I still also can not see the 2zone climate or rev camera (though camera is not a huge issue)
Reversing camera is under Comfort and Assistance. 2 Zone climate is under Interior but only on the recommended options that Porsche suggest. A similar pre-selected configuration comes up if you try to configure a GT4. However all the options are still individually selectable and same appears to be true for me if I try to spec a GTS 4.0. They've highlighted the recommended options in blue on the configurator now, so maybe an issue earlier today whilst they where updating it?
I do wonder if the pre-configured ones reflect parts availability in combination and a few bits that haven't proved popular which Porsche GB want rid of, looking at you exclusive design fuel filler. A Macan S throws up a similar set of preconfigured builds.

Re Bose. wouldn't worry too much the standard stereo is fine. Bose isn't all that in the Cayman/Boxster imo. Burmester is on a completely different level but pricey. If my 718 was a daily drive and also used for commuting then I would possibly consider Burmester.I enjoyed a decent length of test drive in a 4.0 Cayman courtesy of my local OPC on Thursday.
The main take away was that the engine is sensational. In sport, it’s vocal at any revs, it’s flexible, strong and amazingly responsive.
I also loved the manual box. Yes the ratios are long but it pulls strongly in any gear at almost any speed and the auto rev match is a delight. The steering was quite light but direct, and the whole car felt ‘natural’ to drive. The test car was on the -10 PASM which rode very well (I left it in the softer setting throughout). Firm but never crashy.
Given 6 year old GTS’s are well in to the £50’s I’m going to stick my neck out and say that a 4.0 is a good buy at 70-something. With the end of production in sight and quite a bit of pent up demand, will they ever really depreciate? I’m not sure they will. Some solid man maths there!
Manual Boxster please.. do I be brave and spec Python Green?

How many miles had that one done? Python - for me its very meh, and won't stay in fashion for long, same with shark blue. YMMV.The main take away was that the engine is sensational. In sport, it’s vocal at any revs, it’s flexible, strong and amazingly responsive.

Just over 2k miles on it. I had originally thought yellow was the colour for me but the one I took out was yellow and looked a bit washed out! For me, it needs to be a bright colour and doesn’t give many other options! The bright coloured early GT3’s are still in fashion. I don’t really see that being an issue.
