anyone thats put Girodiscs on where did you get them from? design911.co.uk have a small discount on them at the moment but was hoping to get a better deal if i buy all the bits i need from somewhere
You could try getting a quote via 9m or 9e, they may have stock or apply discount, else design911 is a good spot.

Also look on Ebay, cheapest I saw was Sumopower but I suspect if you tell design911 they will match or beat the price.

I've emailed 9e so will see what they say otherwise i feel a call to design911 might be happening later, front discs are apparently on the limit!

I've seen some people changing callipers to fit bigger discs? anyone done this?

Hi. Thank you for welcoming me, for your kind reply and sharing your POV on the PSE. I did notice when getting insurance quotes that after market exhaust modifications need to be declared (otherwise can void a potential claim) and does increase the yearly premium, which is a shame, but so be it.
I'll take the counsel of those herewith on the PSE, but seems like it would be a straight forward job considering the car originally had it as an option and Porsche can retrofit. But yep I'll take your counsel. Thanks J
Hi Julian,
Just to be clear, my understanding is that both the standard and sports systems on the R (and sister car the 987 Spyder) were bespoke (larger pipe diameter for the slightly higher output 3.4 engines) for those years and are now very hard to find. I have heard that most Porsche dealers simply don't have any information or knowledge of these small volume systems and hence will offer you the smaller diameter sports system from the 987 S.

From an engineering point of view, I am not keen on the concept of the 'sports' systems anyway. They involve additional (bypass) pipework with a switchable valved actuator to add noise, so they add weight (the antithesis of the Cayman R) but no power gain that I am aware of. If I wanted a louder system I would talk to Carnewal in Belgium. They take a standard (large diameter) R system and remove some baffling/wadding to increase airflow, sound and power (from memory they quote 7bhp?) and reduce weight. The end result is a standard Porsche system in appearance and can be done on a new or exchange basis. I can't endorse them, since I haven't personally dealt with them, but have heard much good feedback here (I know some of the other current and former owners have gone for the Carnewal modified system) and on other Porsche forums.

Enjoy your superb driving machine; better weather coming next week! I did a lot of research and test drove a lot of cars before buying mine and am delighted with my R. It's a truly involving car of a type that is being forgotten with the hefty, hyper-powered and electronically nannying generation of current performance machines.

Cheers,

Jon

Hi JHeardy,

I though mine was low mileage with 8900 miles! I am in the use it as much as possible school of thought and plan to add lots more; it still drives like a new car at the moment.
I think your car would appeal to a collector, but the depths of a recession is maybe not the moment to sell? Personally I'd hang on to it for a bit until the world is a more sane and familiar place. You are completely dependent on finding someone with a particular yen for an 'as new' PDK R; a restricted market even more limited by current circumstances and undoubtedly affecting values.

Looking through the thread since 2017 we passed the £50K zone, now the R is sub £40K, a few approach low £30's.
Crystal ball question I appreciate, but contrary to the POV's over the 200 odd pages of this thread the R hasn't hit bottom yet. How far could it ever fall? Not withstanding market conditions, but do you think we will see the prices start with a 2 this year? or ever even?

There's a PDK with sofas with 82k miles that should be starting with a 2 but is up at £35k, laughable compared with other PDKs, but that's optimism for ya...

I have seen that one. It does seem expensive considering the mileage vs others currently available. I guess in time it’s inevitable they’ll all be starting with a 2 in the price. In 5 years time we might be having the same conversation and noting they start with a 1!

If you insist. Covid enforced sitting on kerb with my coffee over the weekend. It's up for sale shortly actually if anyone is looking out for one.

Oh alright, if you insist biggrin

Oh and your car is worth exactly what someone is prepared to pay for it (but FWIW I will believe a 50s or even high 40s PDK R sale when I see it - sorry!).
