- Unusual mix of PDK and X73 suspension
- No auto wipers
- No auto mirrors
- No cruise control (can be retrofitted)

What would be classed as a big discount these days on a 72k car sat in the showroom unregistered. I was told today this 'significant saving' was 2k. I may have been tempted but maybe I've been spoilt with BMW's significant discounts so expected more. Edited by bigtime on Tuesday 5th July 19:23
Just back from a 17 day (2000 miles) European excursion in the CGTS and thought I’d post my early experiences with the car. It’s a daily driver and it covers a commute of just 10 miles (20 mins) each way. I’ve had the car for 3 months and 3800 miles now.
Luggage space – purchased the Roadsterbags and together with a sports bag, 2 small rucksacks and a suit carrier it can carry enough for 2 people for 2½ weeks around Europe.
Noise – the engine howl is fantastic, all of the passengers have commented that it sounds like a race car on full throttle. The exhaust pops and crackles are a little childish and I can see why some might feel they are OTT. I on the other hand love them and to hear the car descend down the side of an Alpine mountain (at my maximum) was a holiday highlight. Cabin noise from the tyres is intrusive, on bad surfaces. I feel that any further noise insulation would probably detract from the overall feeling that you’re in a sports car.
Gearbox – I went for PDK and it personally gives me the best of both. I only drive the car in manual mode, my wife only drives it in auto mode. I do agree with comments that a manual gearbox gives greater interaction, but the PDK is a fantastic auto box and even better when in manual mode. Lower gearing would be nice but I only find this an issue when pootling along and not 100% on it.
Speed – the CGTS has enough engine performance for me. I do not track but do enjoy daily blasts upon half empty roads around here. The engine does require to be kept on the boil but this part of the experience. The car requires a bit of effort from the driver but the reward is instant response and that noise. I did look at an M4 before this purchase and I can understand why some might choose the BMW over the CGTS. The M4 is mighty fast but that’s it. Make sure you try the CGTS before you buy though, it might just make you feel alive again.
Handling/feel – I do not drive on the ragged edge everywhere so I’m probably not best qualified to judge its absolute abilities. For me the car gives all the feedback I require to make quick, confidence inspiring, progress. It hasn’t bitten me yet and given that I’m unlikely to drive with the PSM off, I hope it will not.
Best option – auto wipers and lights
Worst option – Bose (very poor compared to our Merc’s Harman Kardon)
General – all comments have been very positive but it’s the colour that gets the most draw. I went for Carmine Red and have been very surprised by the number of “what a fantastic colour” comments. It is at the end of the day just a red and I probably would have gone for a PTS if it was available, but everyone seems to like it lots. Most importantly we do and we would order it again. A great sports car that’s a practical everyday prospect.

Watching the Autocar 718 review, and I am pleased to have got a 981. Also doubly pleased that I ticked everyone of Matt's "properly" specced Cayman's options:

Interesting stuff. I agree with you that stretching my finances and buying a new CGTS while I could was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I have a car for life.
Regarding the spec, I'm with Matt as I have PASM/PTV/Manual but I disagree re. the PCCBs. I'm road only (no track days) so the potential lack of fade is a non-issue for me, whereas the replacement cost IS an issue! It's a large percentage on a £60k car and a luxury rather than a necessity.
I disagree with Matt re. the weight savings too. PCCBs are larger diameter than the steels (350mm vs 330mm/299mm, plus 6-piston vs 4-piston calipers), so while they're a fair bit lighter when you compare like with like, comparing smaller steel vs larger ceramic it's closer.
Finally, the auto-blip in sport mode would really annoy me. Thankfully on the CGTS it's only there in Sport Plus. Result!

Guys, I have been taking interest in a Cayman S or GTS, for a mainly road car is there much between them? With the limited numbers its hard to find the spec GTS i would want, GTS Interior Pack is the draw to the GTS, sat in one with Carbon Trim, white stitching everywhere, and it seemed a nice place to be than the S. However there are some nice S cars available well spec'd too. Is there much in it, or with should i just look for either in the right spec for me? I want manual, sports suspension, (PTV would be good), sports seats plus, (buckets maybe), bose, but thats about it, oh parking sensors for the wife.

Apart from the bodywork, interior trim and an extra bit of top end power there is NO difference between a GTS and a similar specced S. It's just that some things that are options on the S are standard on the GTS - Sport Chrono, 20" wheels and PSE for example.Personally I don't actually want any of those 3 so I'd go for an S. But if you do then you could obviously find them on a GTS but might look a while to find an S with them all. I think you'll find Bose isn't well regarded on here (I have it and think it's crap)

In terms of driving, if you get a correctly specced (for you) S or GTS, there's nothing in it apart from a few ponies you'd be hard pushed to notice. Personally I went GTS for my Boxster as I prefer the cosmetic bits on it and all the things that come as standard on a Boxster GTS were options I would have specced on an S anyway. GTS interior pack + buckets I can highly recommend though even from just a looks PoV. They're not for everyone, but they make the car feel way more expensive than it is, proper supercar interior IMO, especially when you look at the inside of something like a Gallardo which is rather pants.I agree with the above posters - the finer details are what make the GTS. It's up to you if they're important or not. For me the full alcantara interior makes a huge difference to the interior and would sway my decision if I could afford it. I would imagine an S would save quite a few quid as GTS's seem to be holding their value very well currently.

Thanks for the info guys, the only thing leaning me towards the GTS is the GTS interior package, its really nice i feel compared to the S leather. Most S models seem to have the 20" Carrera S wheels which i like, even better in the platinum colour. Other wise i dont really mind aslong as its manual and with 10 or 20mm lowering and sports seats plus at a minimum (the normal seats hugging?).
Is the Sound Package Plus a standard exhaust is valves? If so i would want this, and maybe a PSE to get that childish grin
