Very interesting https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a34702957...
Yep, cool things. Rick has been around a long time and know this platform very well.
He’s also just finished a 4.5L conversion on a 991.2 GT3 RS. Ballistic.
That 4.5L GT4 can gap a stock 991.2 GT3 RS when both are at full chat .... videos are on YouTube and Instagram.
$30k/£22k. It’s a lot, but it’s less than the difference to any 991 GT3 RS(.1, .2 or .3/OPF)

£22k for the engine, but you'd need the gearbox upgrades too given the power hike? I assume it's strengthened as well as re-geared?
Sounds like a beast!
Re-gear is optional but recommended. Custom 2-5 and 6 if you really want.Sounds like a beast!
Also recommended is LWFW and higher rated Sports Clutch which actually the ‘limiting’ factor.

yep £10k on the gearbox.Sounds like a beast!
the thing is you can buy an off the self 991.2 manual GT3 with a mega engine also for less money.
Some times you just have to buy the better car imo
I like mods but always cull it to a £10k max spend, if you want a faster car you buy a faster car is my rule, it will work longer and pay you back come sale time oem cars will do 200k miles.
Slippy slope modding so you have to have a personal set of rules or it gets out of hand.

£32k plus labour on a 981 GT4 is still less than a 991.2. Plus you're arguably getting a superior engine.the thing is you can buy an off the self 991.2 manual GT3 with a mega engine also for less money.

You'd have to really want one though, insurance for road use will be a problem as will resale. Probably better to compare it to a dedicated track or race car to be honest.

GT3 is great out the box, the 981 GT4 if you are going to do the engine, you will then have to do shocks and brakes also to finish off the package as I said a slippy slope TDT now knows :-)
I am sure if you asks him now, what car would you buy a GT4 and mod it to death or a oem 991.2 manual GT3 I think he would go GT3.
Would I rather a fully sorted GT4 yes JCR car looks mega but over £60k parts on a £90k car and he's not done the gear box yet ! , I like driving mid engine cars , would I spend £50k+ on a GT4, nope.

a 981 sadly needs more than £32k parts to compete with a 991.2 GT3 the engines only a small part of the car.

GT3 over a GT4 if you lke the engine in the back. For me it'll always be the GT4 due to it's handling advantage. Anyway that's a different subject and we should not polute the 718 with discussions of how much better / worse the 911 is GT3 is great out the box, the 981 GT4 if you are going to do the engine, you will then have to do shocks and brakes also to finish off the package as I said a slippy slope TDT now knows :-)

It's a difficult one, a 991.2 GT3 is a hell of a car, and if I had the extra budget/the chance to buy new I may well have done. Would be the route I'd go before putting £25k into a new engine, as good as I bet that would be. I find the arguments about the engine being in the wrong place a bit old, as Porsche have done some fantastic engineering to turn that to their advantage, in the old cars, fair enough, not so much in the new ones.
Interestingly though, I much prefer the GT4 over a 992 2S, the one I drove was incredibly capable but very insulated, might be a cliché to say it, but more GT than sports car. I'm not sure how the GT department are going to work their magic to get that feeling back on the 992 GT3, but I'm sure they will.
Just make as many of the things as possible before 2030 please

with RWS I doubt there is one, my GT3 does drive very mid engine, it's not a SWB 65 :-)we will see what happens when the RS GT4 puts in a ring time I guess, but I don't get the infamous 911 front end bob in my 991.2 GT3 or any nasty understeer to have to trail the death out of it, well not any less or more you have to trail a GT4 into a bend anyway. Its splitting hairs now if you add a bit of rake to the 991.2 GT3 platform. The rear of the GT4 will never match or be as stable as the 911's multi link set up that just physics and angles where the multi link magics the tyre to the road, The Gt4's set up cannot do that and this you get unwanted camber changes, would I want 560bhp in the GT4 platform, prob not.

Well let's agree to differ. we will see what happens when the RS GT4 puts in a ring time I guess, but I don't get the infamous 911 front end bob in my 991.2 GT3 or any nasty understeer to have to trail the death out of it, well not any less or more you have to trail a GT4 into a bend anyway. If Mr Rohl and others prefer the GT4 setup, then who am I to argue?

Mr Rohl has to sell Porkers that's his job. I think he owns a 987.2 Spyder if you want to buy what he owns ;-) I doubt he owns a GT4.
Is easy to find a car he drives on any model and loves.

we would be both lapped after 5 laps ;-) I would dream to be able to turn every thing off and drive like that ;-)

I also stated I like mid engine, but can it take 560BHp ? I have owned and driven both on track at speed to my own limits, you have not driven either I guess on track at limits.

Point I was making is he states the GT4 is better handling..Mr Rohl has to sell Porkers that's his job. I think he owns a 987.2 Spyder if you want to buy what he owns ;-) I doubt he owns a GT4.

Porsche are masters at selling and having key figures to promote what ever the newest car is for sale.
when the 981 SPyder was lauched you did not get Walter driving it, you got a female well known fit Tennis player :-) as that's a life style car even if people hate to think it is.
