I'm guessing if you're "locked in" and your order is awaiting a build slot, you're going to get hit by this? (Factory is shut down in August? Right?)

I read the LED PDLS+ was significantly better than the Xenon's.

Xenon

LED

I definitely prefer the look of the LED's. Like most people hit by this I can't imagine many cancelling an order over it.

Probably worth repeating for those unsure - The standard Xenon on the car are 25w and don’t have/need washers. They are perfectly good, probably as good as any other system from mainstream car firms. Only issue is they don’t have the PDLS features and are silver so look a little odd on the GTS.

The upgraded Xenon have PDLS, are in black and also have four dot running lights around the light bezel (not the same look as the LED ones but still distinctive). The bulbs are 35w so a lot more powerful and therefore require washers.

Whether they worth nearly £1k is highly debatable but i’ve kept them anyway, just feel like the right choice on the GTS.

Thanks folks. I’m locked in, build next month. Hopefully I can at least change the lights without a further build delay

I always spec the highest spec lights on my cars. I had Macan with LED and now I have 718 Boxster with Xenon. I thought I will be going backwards, but 718 Xenon is on par with Macan LED.

I did test drive 718 with LED and that was visibly better than my 718 Xenon. But if it’s unobtanium, Xenon will serve you just fine.

Had the call earlier from the OPC, yup, no LED PDLS+ for you.

He also mentioned the option isn't coming back, which considering the Cayman EV will most likely adopt the Taycan lighting system or something entirely new, I wasn't surprised to hear.

Bi Xenon's it is.

What's the lead time on a Cayman T out of interest? 18 months?

I prefer the Xenon.. The LED's look too busy.

I agree. Was going to go LED, and was then persuaded by my dealer to go with the more modern set up. Haven't driven the car in the dark since I got it in March, but for some reason the decision's not really bothering me.

For looks alone I can’t imagine ordering a car without then. Non led headlights look dated!

Alas, with the next wave of build slots and for the foreseeable future, LED's isn't an option.

I don’t see any advantage of having those four DLR leds other than making a statement of ‘it’s a Porsche’.

I think they look an unconvincing design.

They are only special builds now. Tried to order one last month and was told I may never actually get one if I ordered it.

My LED PDLS equipped car arrived at the dealership yesterday, after having LED PDLS in my current 718 there's no way I would want to return to standard lights. I had bi xenon PDLS on my two previous 981's which were fine, but the LED is far superior and looks much better in the headlight unit.

I still wouldn't cancel my order however, these cars are mostly used in the day / evenings so the xenons would be OK.

I am the exception putting 23k miles on mine in 18 months, daily driving day and night.

Can you expand on what you mean by that please?

In the printout the OPC had on the wait list for each model, the was an asterisk next to the Boxster/Cayman T, with"Special build only" next to it. No projected build date was given and the dealer told me that while they could take an order from me they had absolutely no idea if the car would ever be built. He couldn't say why it's still on the Porsche configurator.

That's a shame. Can't really afford a 4.0 and would never get an allocation now even if I tried I suspect!

Thanks

Mid of next year Porsche will move the 718 production to another factory in Germany (Osnabrück).
That will help with availability of buildslots but not with the supply of parts. Maybe that will improve until then.
Only 718 will be produced there. No 718 production in stuttgart then, and they do already slow down 718 production there to produce more 992.

This is not the first time Osnabrück produces P cars.
As far as I remember 987 Boxsters (not Caymans) were also produced there.

By the way, that blue looks surprisingly good on the GTS 4.0, better than on the 992 GT3.

So I put a deposit on a new Boxster S last month. Dealer said it would, be a year.

Is this in doubt? I already bored of waiting.,,.,,!!!!
