Got the good news from my SA that my car is in the UK. I assume it’s been on a boat from Emden to Grimsby.

He’s confirmed that my car isn’t subject to any stop sale (Bose is on my spec).

Asked him to let me know PPF prices, he’s quoted Track Pack for £2300 plus VAT and reckons full PPF will be £5k all in. This is quite a bit more than I was expecting.

Have had a quote in York for £1700 plus VAT for full track pack with Xpel.

…..apparently ceramic coating is £800, they can do that in house with G technic products.

Anyone have any thoughts on price?

Xpel in York sounds like a good price. OPC price on film is probably about the going rate, maybe a little high. Ceramic coating is also in the ballpark I'd expect for price. If you get the whole lot done by a specialist with decent lights in the workshop they'll be able to correct any finish defects before coating. It will probably come out a little nicer than an OPC would manage.

This is only my thoughts, but for me if i'm going for PPF i'm all or nothing. I've inspected the work of the garage I'm thinking of using and you can definitely see a difference between the finishes with and without.

Ceramic is a good option but unless you have a very good washing technique they can be prone to swirl marks pretty bad. Most of that £800 will be in the prep work.

If you wanted to give it a go yourself I know that Gyeon CanCoat is very good and lasts around 6 months. Also super easy to apply.

Opc I imagine will be farming the job out and adding there bit on which I would say is why it is more expensive, have you tried Reep in Knaresborough for a quote, they do some very high end cars for quite a few main dealers, I follow them and their works looks really good.

Nice spec. Aventurine is luuuuuuuuurvly but I am just a tad biased!
As Im sure you know, its all about the light with Aventurine. Shame it looks so grey most of the time.

Aventurine is such an "I can't quite work it out" colour - but in a good way. Looks outrageously good with those arum wheels too.

That was a low autum sun day, with the sun behind me over my right shoulder.... no filter, but a gentle yellow glow. Surprisingly enough, sat out there now on a dull Cornish day, its looks very green..... the gold wheels and red accents, actually empahsise the green pigment.

Its the camera Aventurine doesnt like as far as I can tell. Always looks green to my eyes, in the flesh. Wasn't something I had seen properly at all until the day I collected it. Which was nice....

Would PPF fill in existing chips? I have large number of tiny chips that drive me nuts when I walk away from the car and I look back at the lights still glowing for few seconds.
When you out screen protectors on a scratched/pitted phone screen, the scratches and chips disappear, so it might look better with ppf on headlights.
Interesting. I get called in to repair those chips/pitted windscreens before said films are applied.

Incidentally, I replaced a Cayman windscreen last week which had a protective film on it (this brand is meant to be the better one). Stone strike: wallop. Cracked.

Aha! So you fill/fix the windshield before the film is applied. That probably prevents the above mentioned bubbles.

I still can’t decide so not using the car until I’ve made a decision! It’s a huge amount of money
Decided not to bother with PPF and just get it ceramic coated. Will take the car for a good run this weekend and not worry about any road rash. Will spend the £3k on fuel!

Good call @matt21, exactly the way I would have gone in your position. I'm 3 Caymans in, and have a 4th on order. Definitely don't worry about the road rash for now. Give it a careful look over this time in 2 years, and figure out that if it needs any paint. It will probably be less costly than the PPF would have been. Ceramic or "glass" coating definitely feels worth it to me, if just for making cleaning quicker and easier.

If you were expecting a lot of track day or excessive motorway mileage, I'd probably have advised to think again about PPF. The only one of my 3 so far with excessive road rash was 4 (maybe 5?) previous owners, despite low mileage, and hasn't got particularly worse in my ownership despite no PPF, and a few track days. The first one was better for front bumper painting after a long stint of motorway trips - 600 miles return about once a fortnight over 9 months during the first year - but it wasn't that expensive, and looked better than new once painted.

Hope you enjoy the running-in period almost as much as the bit that comes after! Monumentally nice cars to own and drive. I remain smitten 5 1/2 years in.

Is anyone having the same issue as me on My Porsche, I can no longer get the status of my order showing and instead I just see the details of my current car?

I'm a bit stuck on if I am looking in the wrong place, but I can't locate the Order Status page at all.

My car is due into build today, so wanted to keep an eye out this week...

The My Porsche app is a bit hit and miss. I've been at Stage 3 since 1/9/22. According to the PS&VMS my Cayman exited the compound at Emden 12/10/22. So if the system is to be believed, its been built and if not on the way to Grimsby, its not far off.

Meanwhile the My Porsche app has given me nowt.

I'd suggest you contact your Sales Exec and ask him what's on the system for your order. Way better than the My Porsche app IMHO.

Best of luck.

The My Porsche app is absolutely terrible IMO. I guess if it actually works to track your order then that's useful but when your car arrives you might as well uninstall it immediately because it doesn't do anything except drain your phone battery.

The issue is that the Car was there last week, showing at Stage 3/5. Not it has completely disappeared, like I no longer have an order. Obviously I do, just wanted to check if it was a system issue or something specific to me. Sounds like it's a me issue, so i'll speak to Porsche and ask.

Sorry to derail, was just looking to seeing production pics of the car in the next few weeks.

So according to the Vehicle Management System our order has already left the factory. According to the My Porsche App its "Scheduled for Production".

YMMV with the app, some people have had the pics of it going through production, others not a whisper.

Going to chase my SE for an update though....

Not just an issue for you, also lost tracking details (using the term lightly) completely over the weekend.

The tracking is at best flaky and at worst absolutely pointless.

Mine was showing stage 3 until Sat when it moved to stage 4. I knew last week as my SA told me that it was “in the country”. Just had a message this morning asking when I want to collect…..

…..perfect timing as came down with a bout of covid on Sunday and been in bed since!

So I think I’m going to get into a used CGTS 4.0 and cancel my deposit. Been talking to a dealer about a car then…

All of a sudden a different Carmine red at Porsche Leeds I have saved as a fav has dropped £2-3k. Seems too good to be true. Now at £67k, Anyone know the car?

It’s close to my new spec
I took it for a test drive a few months ago at Leeds when I needed to decide between manual and PDK. I think it’s been used as a demo car if memory serves but mileage is quite high for that… it’s exactly the same spec though, so must be the same one.

Looks good value for that price.

If it was nearer to the spec I wanted I would have cancelled and bought it, but I don’t want red and do want pdk.
i'd been looking at that one as well as Carmine has always been my Porsche colour of choice. Think it was originally up at £73kish in the late summer so it shed £6kish before being sold. Nice car.
