Proof that a manual is quicker than a PDK!!

on the bigger power tracks yes the manual with the longer ratio's will prob be quicker on those tracks
but we are talking a second either way , are you that good a driver to know ?
you don't act change gear that much on track and you don't hear people saying the longer ratio's are a track issue they normally help esp on the ring and Spa.
they might not be so great at Cadwell park as an example.
each track will have a quicker car, PDK might be on one track while manual will be quicker on another.
one car with a full tank of fuel will be slower than the other car with 1/4 tank etc etc
it's pretty much a mute point unless you can lap within 2/10th of a second every lap of a Pro race driver.
the best way to be quicker is to have enough camber and the right tyres.

but we have come to say the PDK does NOT accelerates faster, it is in fact slower due to the extra mass, it changes gear faster that's all.
it is a tough one over a lap and imo it depends on the track.
Unless the ratios of PDK are better for the track being driven --- and yes, the PDK is faster off the line. Particularly with launch control ...it is a tough one over a lap and imo it depends on the track.
PDK ratios are shorter which must be an advantage on the average circuit ... and 7 rather than 6 ratios ... to virtually the same top speed.

I never bought the PDK for speed of shifts, I bought it so I can focus more on other aspects of driving.
I think its great that the 981 has such a great manual box and people have the choice but i find it surprising that people attack PDK as if the technology insulted their mother. The technology is fantastic, if you want someone to blame for the demise of the manual, blame the enthusiasts who have voted with their cheque book.

Agreed. I bought a manual to suit my particular use of the car, notwithstanding that PDK is a truly astounding thing!Which is better, an apple or a banana?
Hmmmmm, there's no answer to that one.

Well that depends, if you want to roll them down a hill then the apple will be much better Which is better, an apple or a banana?

But would have to agree that different gearboxes, extra cost options etc suit different peoples requirements.
Buy what you want and enjoy it, as for you it is the better option.

Carl, sorry you are wrong. You, like me, by not selecting manual are not evenly remotely close to being an enthusiast and we drive like girls, apparently?I think its great that the 981 has such a great manual box and people have the choice but i find it surprising that people attack PDK as if the technology insulted their mother. :-)I do like the way people stick up for PDK, "I live in a city", " my wife needs to drive it" , "I want to focus more on driving the car"
it's a good read though. but these 3 are the most common :-)

In seriousness, PDK in normal mode is pretty much the most extreme eco-warrior 'box that you could imagine. It shifts up at less than 2000rpm and will take 7th at about 42mph. If you let it, it will make a Porsche a slow but relatively fuel efficient car, which is absurd. I once let it do its thing and drove sedately for a 2hr journey and the trip computer showed an indicated 37mpg!

MPGs rule the world. I am still not sure what they are. But other people seem to have more of them than me, especially sad people that drive diesel cars.

My Boxster is currently showing 56 mpg. Beat that.In seriousness, PDK in normal mode is pretty much the most extreme eco-warrior 'box that you could imagine. I drive so fast in the Turbo I can't imagine trying to steer my car through a series of bends, one armed and also changing gear. It would eventually end in disaster in a sub 3 second car.
I need two hands on the wheel of the beast and my brain focused away from the gearbox.
Its not a reason for PDK, its an excuse due to lack of talent. You cant create driving talent, you either have it or you do not.... and I certainly do not. On this basis the Turbo PDK makes me feel good and look good doing it, as it does for thousands of others. I have a computerised Jason Plato changing the gears for me when its the right time and also telling the wheels when to brake when my talent runs out. The Hero maker indeed.

One day somebody will explain to me why every modern race car has got a semi auto manual mode gearbox and why there are still people that believe Manual is the holy graal.
Till that day, I will be driving a semi auto box that changes gear in a less-than-the-blink-of-an-eye
Ooooh! I know the answer. We aren't racing. Till that day, I will be driving a semi auto box that changes gear in a less-than-the-blink-of-an-eye

Same folk who can stop better than ABS - given it's banned from most top level racing and all that. Obvious innit. What if in 2080 people will be able to change gear instantly using their mind and steering wheel is drive by wire with 1:1 connection with wheels with no delay/lack of response, better than any LaFerrari today, giving you the chance to drive superfast?
I am a Bladerunner man, call me futurist, I am I reckon. As long as I am able to drive fast and faster than old technologies allow, I am happy.
I don't care about demonstrating I'm the best analogue driver if there are technologies that overtake the most capable driver in an analogue car.
Not sure if you've got my point, don't get me wrong, I don't like yet google car or similar stuff but I do believe manual semi auto box like the one in 458 speciale, 991 GT3, or PDK on CGTS for poor people, represent a true step forward.
Would start your engine like in 1905 using a lever or push a button on your dashboard like in a P1? Oh yeah it is funnier using the lever. Ehm, really?

Sorry Cmoose I didn't mean I don't agree with you, your post was absoluteky clear, what I tried to point out is that for me no matter the control type, I just want to be as fast as possible (but not ready for a sports google car).
I agree somebody can prefer the engagement rather than speed, everyone in different terms (hydraulic steering wheel, manual gbx, etc).
