sorry £84k and thats without colour to sample in Gulf Blue so £90k in a special colour lol. This is not spec I'd go for but suspect its typical. I'd happily buy a used manual 981 Cayman for £40k if I really wanted a Cayman - it will be almost as good for less than half the cost. GT4 doesn't even look all that quick on track and whilst Harris was trying to be enthusiastic you can tell the engine was a bit of a disappointment compared to the GT3
I don't quite understand where you are going with this matey? Firstly your spec is not typical at all, its actually the most expensive I have seen anybody put together on all the various forums. £76k with std brakes or £81k with PCCB it the top end anybody is doing and realistically many are speccing strippers at around £68k.

Your comparison to an old Cayman makes no sense either - its an old car. If you must make a comparison to the 981 then like for like has to be a brand new GTS at which point the price difference is minimal and 12mths down the line after the first years depreciation the GT4 is likely to end up costing far less to own.

Still not sure what NEW car you think represents better value for money as a drivers car than the GT4 at this price. The GT4 was never going to be a better car than the GT3, Porsche just wouldn't want that, but it seems to me that its delivering 90% of a GT3 experience for 65% of the price. Surely that has to make it a bargain in anybody's book.
GTR maybe? New R8 V8? GT4 with Ceramics , Cage etc its £80k so lets not split hairs. Spec to have on this is defo colour to sample, ceramics and club sport package IMO. I'll be surprised if anyone leaves off aircon and PCM too. A new basic manual Cayman for £39.6k? smile

Not trying to be adversarial but £80k is daft for a Cayman IMO.

Is it really more daft than a £150k 911? Speccing a turbo s or gt3 rs to the same (slightly crazy IMO) level you did to the Cayman, you can get to £150k without too much effort vs a basic manual 911 carrera at £73.5k?

Aircon is std, its just dual zone climate that you pay £518 extra for, which is totally unnecessary in the UK if you ask me. PCM I would agree is essential however to me too.

A GTR is £78k going on £85k when specced up, so close on price (albeit still a little more), I will give you but one is a light nimble sports car and the other a huge GT battleship. For me at least the Datsun holds no appeal as a purchase prospect. Sure a base Cayman is £39.6k but then a base GT4 is £64.5k - like for like, specced up the same as your £80k GT4 the price of the base Cayman rises to £65k which again makes the GT4 look good value to say the least.

Look at it as a Carrera S for just £80k - does it then look quite so daft? The GT4 has a Carrera S engine, GT3 parts, GT car exclusivity and it's lighter and faster that the Carrera S too. Then suddenly it looks like a bargain!

If you don't like the car then that's fine, move on and don't buy one - leaves more for the rest of us, but with all due respect you are spouting twaddle. tongue out

In terms of value think of it in comparison to a normal 991,it's tremendous value.
bespoke wheels, bodykit, rear suspension, tyres , steering from the 991gt3 ,front suspension and brakes from the gt3 etc
The same interior more or less as a 991 turbo s
To my mind it makes the 991 range bar the gt3 vastly overpriced.

Agree 100% but bar the GT3 and GT3 RS in my view the 991 is eye wateringly expensive too IMO.

Walked into Hatfield OPC and they had a new 991 Carrera 4S cab. It was something like £128k - honestly couldn't believe it.

Just an opinion and no extras required on a GTR - it comes loaded as far as I'm aware. I like the GT4 but if I HAD to pick out of the two it would be a GTR all day long. Excuse the twaddle!

Not as daft as the likely £95k which will PROBABLY have to be paid for a second hand one in 12 months time.........limited production numbers permitting, that is.....yes

Unbelievable and you're probably right. May be even more than £100k who knows....

The Lotus Evora 400 is likely the better car than the GT4. 15 more HP, sublime chassis, best steering in the world, brand new 100% leather interior and dash, and it looks like a £200k+ supercar. Pricing is going to be about the same as a mid spec GT4. Hardly any options on the Lotus because it comes fully loaded. Residuals on the Lotus will be much better than the GT4 I would expect.

So for me I am keeping my BGTS and will add an Evora400 to the garage instead of a GT4. Best of both worlds.

I am wondering what all the hoopla is about this car compared to a CGTS? It performs within .5 of a second to 60mph but has no PDK option (stupid Porsche, stupid!) and the whole car screams Japanese boy racer stick-on bodykit and looks, well... naf really.

I wouldn't get caught up on what Mr Harris says. He is basically in Porsche's employ so you get the official line which will be 'the GT4 is good but not - and never will be - as good as a GT3'.

In reality, to the objective driver it may well be a better car. I think that it may well be.

That will make a good requote in 12 months time biggrin

I'd bet on a 40k differential by then.

I find Chris Harris videos quite tedious, totally the same every time, fine if you like him though.
His usual drivel unfortunately. I wouldn't hold your breath if your hoping for better things to come, I'm afraid his stuff will only get worse as he gets more mainstream.

I see Clarkson has been suspended by the BBC and the last three episodes of TG canned as a result. Someone on 911 UK suggested Tiffany Dell, Vicki NVH and The Monkey as being the way forward for the presenters on a new motoring programme.......All I can say is god help us if an "enthusiast" thinks that would be progress......rolleyes

Speaking of which, where'd Autocar's Steve Sutcliffe disappear to? He's not written anything, nor been in any videos in months.

I'd get this guy in for TG. http://www.thegetawayer.com. German yes but his reviews come across as reliable and I love his style. I think he'd be a hit on tv. I'm a fan of CH but do not trust his reviews as much as I used too. He's set off on his own which is admirable but he does not want to upset the establishment. Its hard work though to be fair to be a car journo as I do not often see new cars one can get terribly excited about IMO. Having said that the new GT3 RS wowed me at how dialled in it looked around attract at 10/10ths. Proves new car can be special and have the X factor.
