I would want a new GT4{RS} to sound less exciting than that.
Typo, I hope...but +1 with the sentimentThere is a guy who lives very near me who has a white GT4 and I remember that sounding delicious whenever I was behind him in traffic (in my S3 - note the 4-pot turbo sound I was used to. Always thought the S3 sounded not bad for what it was). Then I got my own GTS and whilst I've not been able to compare and contrast sounds between the two in person, I cannot imagine the current GT4 sounding any worse than my GTS...only better.
So this thread starts with a story from Auto Express which presumably people read. A short internet trawl reveals that this rumour stems from a meeting in South Africa with Porsche people talking about potential future models. In all of these stories, the one thing that remains consistent is that a GT4RS is a possibility and that if it did make production, it would have a NA, 4.0l GT3 engine, detuned to 430hp. So I'm not sure why people are insisting it will be a 4pot turbo?
I'm not saying that a GT4RS is definitely on its way but it has been discussed and the proposed spec is there for everybody to see.

The story falls flat in so far as why would they bother to de tune a 4.0 engine to 430 bhp from over 500hp just doesn't make sense imo ! Far better and easier to take the flat4 to over 400hp
And base price with a gt3 lump is going to be in excess of £100k whereas the f4 would be about £80k!

This is just an odd thing to say. So a 987 Cayman S has a lower powered version of the engine in a base 997 Carrera. And base price with a gt3 lump is going to be in excess of £100k whereas the f4 would be about £80k!
An Audi S1 has a lower powered version of an Audi S3, the VW Golf GTI has a lower powered version of the engine in a VW Golf R. Hell the current GT4 has a lower power output than the one in a 991 S!
Manufacturers do this all the time, so not sure why this doesn't make sense to you?
Also, it's far more attractive to potential owners as a NA F6, so it would make sense and as people are currently happy to pay £100k for a std GT4, I reckon a GT4RS at £100k is perfectly viable.
So do I ... a proper RS engine would lift the whole GT4 brand.
Either this, or the 4 cylinder turbo from the 919 with a lot of anti-turbo lag technology and dare I say, PDK to flat shift ??
On either of these if it's a proper job, £95k could be the base car starting point ... £30k more than the current GT4 starting point ?
Does it compromise the GT3 ?
How hard do you want to work for your dinner ?

Different cc for a start!

Only by 15 hp
We are talking 70 hp difference!
Manufacturers do this all the time, so not sure why this doesn't make sense to you?
I know but by small margins of hp increase do differentiate from lesser models!

Sorry mate, but the Audi S1 (231hp) has 70bhp less than a VW Golf R and the S3 (306hp) and all have versions of the EA888 engine, so yes manufacturers do make cars with ostensibly the same engine but big variations in state of tune. Also if the new GT3 is pretty much unbreakable with 500bhp, it implies huge amounts of abuse possible in a 430BHP version. I'd have one in a heartbeat!
Yes but as we both know it ain't the Porsche way! Quess we just have to wait and see who's right!GT4P said:

Spoke to my friendly OPC on Saturday who confirmed that "there are rumours" of an RS. Usual disclaimers etc. Not a good time to buy used?
Your OPC will have nothing more than 3rd hand information (probably from here).I personally don't think they will build one and there has been nothing been said (or seen) to confirm otherwise. Okay there has been some (selective) quoting, but I think its media spin at best.
