981 apple carplay ?
Discussion
So I bought the Mr 12 volt “plug and play” solution
It isn’t… still need to take your PCM apart and insert a new board etc
That said, I got there in the end. Didn’t bother with fitting supplied mic as calls divert to PCM (your phone will be connected to 2 Bluetooth at once) or cables for reverse camera. Mounted the box by drivers left knee under the lower dash . Cables fed through from there.
Fiddly business 5hrs all told, used their (st) video and the test drive Scotland one - v useful (and a great bloke) tips like removing the gear lever and some of the trim
You need a selection of torx a soft tool (or I used a plastic spatula) and I would say a lot of patience
But worthwhile in the end !

I’ve been looking at the Mr12V one for a while but was waiting for someone else to take the plunge. ☺️
The install looks similar to all of the other kits, I was hoping there wouldn’t be a need for the daughter board in the PCM unit though.
How does the CarPlay interact with the PCM functions? Does it feel clunky and/or stop the use of some of the buttons like other systems?
Sound quality okay?
When removing the PCM from the car, do you lose all of your settings when replacing it? Does it just work when plugging it back in or do you need it to be coded? Sorry for the stupid question but I’ve not removed a head unit from a Porsche before.
I missed out on the pre-order discount with them unfortunately but did you have any ordering issues? I guess they shipped it from their UK warehouse so no extra taxes to pay?
Hope it works out well for you, it’s the only thing I miss as I use this car as a daily driver now.

Morning
Install v similar yes
Sound quality is excellent as it uses the optical
No resetting / coding of the PCM needed
The kit came with no instructions and the video was pretty poor. That said it’s pretty much the same whichever kit you buy
So far it has worked perfectly. Apart from I can’t work out how to use radio whilst the CarPlay is on - set source to TV (which activates the CarPlay) seems impossible to then use the radio without going back to normal PCM display
For me that’s fine as I mainly stream from Spotify anyway esp on longer journeys when I want apple maps or Waze running
Handoff to phone on original factory mic works fine
The taking apart the PCM is v fiddly and a delicate job - would be v easy to damage something and then be into big money for a replacement - so I wouldn’t put you off but it’s a risky operation !
Bought it from their website - arrived within a week

To add - that’s the inside of the PCM. You have to install an additional circuit board and 3 new ribbon connectors.
The blue box is the Mr 12 volt box, I fitted this using number plate adhesive foam pads. It cannot be seen from any normal angle driving or getting in / out. It’s too big to get behind the pcm or buried behind the centre console and I would have overheating concerns
Odd you need a full hardware solution, for the newer pcm 4 there is a way to do it just using an Sd card…

I'm swapping my 2013 981 CS for a 2016 GTS this week.
As shown earlier in this thread, i fitted a Sony aftermarket head unit to my Cayman S which works really well and has Carplay. I'd like to fit the Sony to my GTS but realised it has Bose which makes it incompatible. There don't seem to be any wiring harness adapters to get round the Bose install. for a slightly earlier year of the 981 there is a solution but apparently not for my 2016 car.
I can't be the first to encounter this problem, does anyone have a fix?

I have had this a few months now and it is a little hit and miss TBH, sometimes I have to manually search for the connection, this is more so If I start the car, turn it off and go back to it within a few minutes and 9/10 once I drive away it disconnects after about 30 secs of driving and them comes back on, it's always fine once connected though. Also noticed when I turn the car off and in reach it still seems to be connected even though the car is turned off.
I would be interested to hear if anyone else had similar issues or is it just me.

Looking for an update on this subject please. Any recent hardware purchases and/or installations?
I have my Sony XAV AX 555D headunit complete with all cabling, fascia trim, new DAB ariel etc for sale. Works really well with carplay, cost about £700 11 months ago. See installed pix near the start of the thread. Absolutely as new, £350 plus shipping to the UK. Selling as my new Cayman has DAB and Bose.robin62 said:

There has been reports of a ‘popping’ noise when using thie Mr12Volt CarPlay system with Bose PCM setups which has put me off if I’m honest.See the thread below for details.

Plus as others report, the MOST approach is harsh sounding - I could tell that even from their YT videos.

I can't fathom why people just don't stick with the MM Automotive solution as that has local UK support.
Is this one without issues? just looked there its double the price of the one I fitted and wonder now if it would have been worth the extra. For most of the time the isudar I have fitted is fine just the odd niggle but every journey it does work and all the carplay functions work well.
I'm now on my second NM Automotive unit having upgraded from a Cayman S to GTS. Both fitted professionally. Not had any problems with either, and getting it booked in to be fitted was the first thing I did after agreeing to buy the GTS. Really seamless, has worked flawlessly and Nick who runs NM Automotive is really helpful and responsive on email with any queries.
Expensive but in this case I think you get what you pay for - I couldn't; make the car my daily without it...

You get what you pay for. As the subsequent reply mentions, NMAutomotive are hands on, easily contactable, will FaceTime you or your installer, provide video guides, and help with every part of the customer journey and installation. I'd rather pay more and know I can pick up the phone and speak direct to someone. julian987R said:
