An equivalent GT4 would be £20k more, or an extra third of the price with increased insurance and running costs. Having driven both, unless you go on track or want the extra pose value/attention it's not worth the extra.

As for resale, GTS are doing just as well as GT4s for holding their value smile
Yes as I said for me it would make sense to stump up the extra, fairly minimal impact in running cost for most owners and values for the GT4, GTS and S are all linked, hence the reason you get most of the money back at the end.

A manual 981 Cayman GTS with 4,800 miles for just under £60k. Is that realistic?

Did you buy it? As it's gone from the approved used locator.

As nice as it is it makes no sense to me, I appreciate some will prefer it but may as well stump up for the GT4, after 3 yrs you may even get most of the difference back.
it's a (roughly) 20k premium for the GT4, so a completely different price bracket.

moreover for some the big wing is a bit OTT and the so the GTS is the best available option sans wing. a GT4 Touring could change that and would be an extremely exciting prospect.

True - but I would make the same argument for an S over a GTS.
equally true - so one may as well just get the model they prefer/is in budget smile

Nice yellow one for sale on AT, 54K i think, PCCB, Buckets, X73, GTS interior etc If i didn't have mine id go for that.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Been for sale for a while as the mileage compared to some around the same price is a fair bit more.
if it wasnt yellow it would have been sold by now....

tongue out
Bought this again yesterday, really missed the GTS and nice to get it back with just 5k more miles than when I sold it 18 months ago. Nice guys at AT, pleasure to deal with and talk about cars rather than allocations and residuals.

Agreed - but only if you can get one. If it's just an option on a limited edition model then it will unavailable new for most of us, and very expensive second hand and no longer such a good buy.

Awesome Rob, i think i saw this going around Donington Park on a PCGB day last summer, spoke with the owner, and it went really well on track.

Did you have anything else after you sold the GTS initially?

Hi JayK12, Thanks yes the car does go well on track, I took it to Spa when I first had it and had a great time.

I've had two GT4's, the first was a Clubsport with Ceramics and the second a decent but lower spec. but in better condition. I never really gelled with them. I suppose really they were out of my league as I can't afford to spend a lot of time on track and as a daily or car for a roadtrip with the missus they are just a little bit too noisy. The clutch was an issue as well as I have a dodgy left ankle and the trips often ended up with me in pain. But there's something about the GT4 so I understand why for many they are so brilliant.

To get the car back that I specc'd from new is really good news, hopefully the guy on the track day looked after it!

Congrats.

I always wonder what happened to my CGTS also special connection because I specced it from new - it was one of the first deliveries in 2014 and was that first that Reading had seen with PDK, X73 + PTV. It was last seen on RF64 KMO...after i transferred my plate off it. GT Silver.

Good to hear the comparison Rob. There is something about the GT4 for sure, I've been passenger and test drove one but for road I have a BGTS Manual on X73 and its a whole lot of fun on the road but always look at the GT4 for some reason even though for road use I didn't see the reason to upgrade.

The guy was a serial Porsche owner so I'm sure they did, it went really well, I'm sure on Cup2 tyres it wouldn't be far of GT4 pace.

I've said it many times, but for road only use the GT4 is not worth the extra £££ in my opinion. I think the 3.4 engine is sweeter in use and revs better, the only advantage the GT4 has is in handling and only then when you're really pushing on at speeds too much for the road.

The GTS, as it was designed to be, is fabulous as a road car. I've been contemplating modding mine a little bit now the warranty is expiring but I'm really struggling to justify doing it! As a package it's spot on, and values are holding really strong. They're a popular car with good reason.

Never heard you say this before :P

What mod's are you thinking? I think you should get a manifold and tune and have it sounding like this redface

I'm pretty happy with the engine to be honest, crackles/pops/burbles/power etc are all perfect for me and my use. I think some decent filters would be the only change, I'm not a fan of paper ones which we have as OE.

The DSC Sport PASM controller is a possible and I'd run it on the standard map, I wouldn't bother with a custom one. The benefits are likely to be marginal though, but it's plug and play so easy to fit myself.

I thought about doing the GT4 short-shift conversion you have but the shift as standard is so sweet I'm loathe to mess with it.

My only real mod would be a big brake conversion, mainly for the cosmetic aspect. 20" wheels are large and with only smaller brakes behind them they look a bit "off". They work perfectly well on the road though.

I'd love a pair of 918 buckets that I could re-trim to match my interior but it would be a huge cost - £10k+. Might give that a miss.

As you can see, I have a few ideas but I'm struggling to justify any of them! The car is just so good as standard.

I've watched all of JCviggens videos including his 7:36 BtoG at the Ring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4q-ImhR6FY&t=... When my warranty runs out I'll be doing the similar modifications although I'll go for 200cel cat manifolds rather than catless as he is.

The GT4 shifter is sweeter, easy simple mod. I've written up simple instructions to change it over yourself on planet9. Takes 30 mins and no need to remove the PCM, etc. I kinda want a more raw sound and less crackles, a manifold might do that. Catless manifold and tune makes the car alot more raw and wild add 45hp in the midrange.

Have you seen any brake conversion kits? Buckets are a pain as to match they need re-stitching, I've given up lol.

Yeah I'm in the same boat, the car is good as is, maybe just a few more road trips this year. lol.

I have been speaking to him a fair bit on planet9 nice guy. I'd like catless but its so so loud, maybe too loud.

There aren't any brake conversion kits as far as I know, but there are a few options out there.

I'm personally not after anything more raw, I don't feel the 981 GTS is that kind of car. If I wanted raw, I'd have bought an Exige or similar!

I agree on the buckets. Foldings/GT2 are the most common but they sit too high in the cabin, making it a real pain to get in and out of the car, and look too old to me. Sports Seats Plus are the seats that sit the lowest in the cabin so I'm going to stick with them. I think they're a great all-rounder and they're light.
