Boxster Spyder
Discussion
Talking with the local Porsche centre yesterday they were saying expectations on the new Spyder are around £90k for a reasonably equipped car when the new model comes out. That’s a massive jump if true from the 981 model.
I can see how they might position this with a 718 6 cylinder NA variant coming in above the current GTS with the Spyder/GT4 coming in 10% above this. All the same significant cash for a Boxster. It would certainly kill the market for ‘overs’ but would people really pay this level?
Also said the expectations are for bigger build volumes for both GT4 and Spyder than last time.

If all this turns out true then it will protect current 981 Spyder values IMO.I can see how they might position this with a 718 6 cylinder NA variant coming in above the current GTS with the Spyder/GT4 coming in 10% above this. Even at £80k basic the first few cars will attract sizeable premiums.I can see how they might position this with a 718 6 cylinder NA variant coming in above the current GTS with the Spyder/GT4 coming in 10% above this. Reckon on £75k max similar to the GT4.

Not if you just order one, take up was slow on the old one, any one could have got one.Reckon on £75k max similar to the GT4.
Cannot see then limiting numbers atm due to a slower year.
they need to sell cars people want
The new car market it dependent on the continuation of cheap money and also the general economy.
We haven’t had discounting for a few years now, but there are many reasons as to why the bubble could burst, not least brexit and the emissions matters / the general public wondering what vehicles to buy these days with all the new rules that politicians want to bring in.
I think times have changed now and this assumption that everything will be worth x amount is the wrong approach.
I think they will list the new GT4 and spyders for at least 10-15k higher than the old though. Will the market take it? Remains to be seen, and is dependent on availability of finance for most non cash buyers and the above factors.
And no - last time it wasn’t a case of “anyone could get one”. I had friends who wanted one but couldn’t. They couldn’t give the 987 spyder and cayman R away at the time, that’s true.

Have decided to sell my blue 981 spyder, just added to pistonheads classifieds, am taking a gamble and am going to go for a mclaren 650s hoping the depreciation slows down a bit, but in my eyes the 650s has got too cheap to resist!
I know I will miss the manual box and the great noise above 4000rpm...lets hope i don't regret it!

Don't forget there are few & far between service centres and running costs on a Mac will be in a totally different area code to a Porsche so actual depreciation might be way down the fors & againsts list I know I will miss the manual box and the great noise above 4000rpm...lets hope i don't regret it!

Mclaren long-geared license loser as well compared to revvy 458. I think 2nd is good for 80+ again...
Agree with this..When i was shopping for mid engine supercar recently i considered Macca 570/650 and Ferrari 488/458..In the end i bought a 458 as the sensible gearing and a 570PS NA 9K V8 with a wondrous noise felt more exciting and relevant for UK roads. My garage already contains a 991.2GT3 and 981 Spyder so now i have a perfect NA three car mix for all occasions.

You don’t seem to own a manual with hydraulic steering , a must have for a car enthusiast one would have thought :-p My garage already contains a 991.2GT3 and 981 Spyder so now i have a perfect NA three car mix for all occasions.

If a car that does 80+ in 2nd is considered a 'long geared license loser', then it's a real mystery how most people even here on the Porsche forum still haven't been banned from driving....
Its not only the gearing as my Spyder does 80MPH in second..My PDK GT3 does 75MPH in second but at a heady 9K revs.I much prefer a high revving NA in my sportscars but i still have a McLaren itch..I'm afraid i'll like it too much and buy one..!Taffy66 said:

That’s very true - it’s all relative to where the red line is.After a lot of sole searching, thinking and prevaricating I finally came to the realisation that, after a change of jobs, the sensible thing to do was to sell my Spyder
So here is the last photo of it in my ownership (Or though technically it belonged to Porsche Leicester when I actually took this photo)
If you after a Spyder look out for this one in the next couple of weeks. Thanks to Porsche Leicester for making the process fair and easy.

Have always loved the look of your car.
Have you changed it for something else, or just cashed in for now ??
I'm working in Spain and will probably doing so for some years. The Spyder wasn't a great fit where I am (Standard of driving coupled with poor roads) and would have been very expensive to re-register (If possible with the loan on it). but to leave it the Uk to be just used two or three times a year seemed stupid,
I have an itch for an Arial Atom but as that would have both the problems above and fewer upsides , I'm going to hold fire for a year or two.
It's is sad 'cus' I often said that the Spyder was all the car I needed and I wont be getting the like of it again but sometimes logic can win over the heart
