This will be my first Porsche so I'm worried that I'll regret my spec. I'll be using it as a daily driver and will likely never track it. PASM didn't seem worthwhile during my test drive, so that rules out PTV as much as I'd like the differential. Similarly, I don't think I'll get value out of Sports Chrono. PSE doesn't appeal to me with the new engine.
I'm looking at around £3.5k of options and I have the budget for up to £6k, but I don't want to spec anything for the sake of it. I plan to keep this car for a LONG time as it's kind of a pre-marriage present to myself haha!
Is there anything glaring that I've missed?
- Base Cayman
- White (not convinced that CWM is worth the extra?)
- PDK
- Black Leather package with partial leather seats (full seems excessive when partial covers most surfaces that are often touched)
- ParkAssist (front and rear)
Thanks in advance for any responses
I would suggest DAB but as many here will tell you it depends on reception in your part of the country. Don't be worried about less options, get what important to you and nothing more, add a grain or 2 of salt to ideas about what's needed for resale.I'm looking at around £3.5k of options and I have the budget for up to £6k, but I don't want to spec anything for the sake of it. If you follow Nick Murray on Youtube, he's a Kiwi living in the US and a Porsche fanatic. He's ordered a 911 4S in night blue metallic with the blue/crayon sport tex interior with the Carrera Classic wheels. It looks fantastic from what he showed on the configurator. Not a combo many would go for.

It was exactly this combination at West Sussex that got me thinking about the Night Bluehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyfEZIUYa6M
The interior looks great in the graphite and canyon; but I think the black sport-tex is the colour I am going to go for. I was thinking the Night Blue a bit dull, but it is a really deep inky heavy metallic colour that I was not expecting to like as much as I did.

I saw the same car and I tried to photoshop the Carera Classic wheels onto it which I think looks far better than the black wheels. The interior looks great in the graphite and canyon; but I think the black sport-tex is the colour I am going to go for. Hi guys, I just placed an order for the 718S, specced as follows:
718S
19" CAYMAN S WHEELS
SPORT CHRONO
PASM
FOLDING MIRRORS
FRONT AND REAR SENSORS
KEYLESS ENTRY
GT SILVER
LIGHT DESIGN PACKAGE
Its a big purchase for me, at about 260k usd (rough calculation) because i live in Singapore (cars are expensive here.)
Now for my question. i noticed almost noone here listed a spec with PTV (maybe a 1/10 ratio?). is this option a must have? some guys on the planet 9 forums seem to think its crazy to spec the car without it. Would love to hear your thoughts. Will maybe go to the track once a year.
Hope some helpful experienced guys can enlighten me with the rationale behind their choices.

Hi Armara
I hadn't originally specced PASM, but after reading the many many views on here that PASM really makes the ride much more compliant and less crashy, particularly with 20" rims, I thought it was worth it. The test drive I had in a 718 Boxster S had PASM, and around the atrocious roads of West London it rode very well.
Things like PDSL Plus are indeed frivolous add-ons that add nothing to the drive of the car itself. But I'm pernickety about the way my cars look, and I really like the 4-point LEDs that come with PDSL Plus so I specced them. Along with other naff things in the interior like coloured seat-belts and model logo on leather arm-rest, these things complete the look of the car for me and make it just so.
Also think I will go with white dials on the dash.

I would not bother with keyless. It also looks wk as if the key has been left in the car!

Thanks for pointing out the typo, fixed. I can't see myself living without keyless entry after having used a car with it. I would not bother with keyless. It also looks wk as if the key has been left in the car!
saw your spec on page 9 edo. it was pretty extensive, but may i ask why you opted out from PTV?

I wouldn't bother with keyless entry in the Porsche you still need to turn the key which is permanently fixed in the ignition barrel - no starter button.saw your spec on page 9 edo. it was pretty extensive, but may i ask why you opted out from PTV?

On PTV I'm sure you would see the benefit if you are seriously tracking the car. But on normal roads at normal speeds I'm not sure you would really notice the difference. I could be wrong and hopefully there will be some cars fitted with it at the Porsche Experience day so that I can feel what the difference is.

I've ordered with PTV, basically because it's the only way of getting a mechanical limited slip diff and keeping the drivetrain within warranty. Expensive way of getting LSD, but I wouldn't want a sports car without one. It will be interesting to see what PTV feels like on entry to quick corners, but I've got no real interest in driving road cars on the track, so it's very much for the general "sportiness" of the drive that I want it.My current daily drive (GT86) came with LSD as standard. I like it, but I think the Cayman needs it less. Still getting it though!
Liam
with regards PTV I don't think it would be needed if you're not tracking your car or driving it really hard. Appreciate some may want it as it makes it that but better of a "sports car" but i'm not so sure it will matter to the general daily driver.
In saying that I haven't compared the two in general driving so I could be very wrong
