I think the cars are ready, but was told... "why market a car we can't make" with all the factory closures / changes.

I also think there has been a lot of GT and special cars scheduled for this year too.

I'm now thinking GT4 and Spyder next year, but this wasn't the original plan I'm sure.
Without a doubt Porsche have been blindsided by emissions and christ knows what else in the last year. GT3 RS launch and orders taken before GMS and deliveries rushed through etc and then of course all the diesel issues which clearly weren't planned/expected.

With 991 in it's last year we've still got a rumoured Speedster to come as well as maybe something limited like the 997 Sport Classic from Porsche Exclusive ?!?!

No way the petrol emissions "blindsided" Porsche, they've been on the cards for years.

Sport Classic could be cool - is it based on the GTS?

Speedster been on the cards for a Goodwood launch for months

Sports classic, harder to get ones head round and I have not seen anything about that model.

With a GT3 T and a 911 T and the GTS, where does a sports classic fit in esp as it's just a GTS with dog tooth seats really. which one can option on a GTS now anyway.

Sports Classic - Might be a GT3 T with rear seats? Double bubble roof and Duck Tail? an even more exclusive 911R?
Speedster - Might be GT3 convertible?

Unfortunate bit of dilution there imo - but if they just put the 3.0T in each - not really sure what they are adding part from many many euros into their coffered from punters that have perchant for Porsche Exclusive and have deep pockets.

I was convinced about the engine being an F6 NA, but seeing this Spyder, it could be a 4pot turbo - mule captured with sound here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9l6npj5Ukmk

Just got off the phone to my OPC (discussing getting a 981 Spyder for Wifey....), and he stunned me somewhat by stating that the new 718 Spyder has been “announced” as a detuned N/A flat 6 from the new GT3.....!! Ermmm.... Really....?!? I didn’t know what to say....!! Am I missing something....?? In the desire not to sound like an ignorant fool, I just accepted his comment, whilst quickly Googling everything “GT4/Spyder” and “Naturally Aspirated”...!! All I can find is the well publicised video of the rather “Turbo-Sounding” Spyder mule released a few weeks back....!!

Anybody else heard something more “definitive” on this.....?? The OPC chap sounded quite convinced.....

Just got off Rennlist, and there seems to be similar banter supporting the above “rumours” on there..... Anybody’s “cleaning ladies” heard anything similar...?? wink

You’ve outsmarted me on this one cmoose....!! I was under the impression that the GT Motorsport division had completely reworked the 9A1 engine for the GT3..... But, delving a bit deeper, it seems you’re spot on... Starts to blur the lines a little between the “GT” and “non-GT” motors a little..... Also raises the question — if I dare...!!— as to whether the 981 (Carrera S) GT4 motor is SO very different to that in the 991 GT3...?? Or are we all just convincing ourselves of this, and thus falling for the marketing hype surrounding the “all new” and improved GT4....??

That is, IF it does indeed have the current GT3 motor.... Despite my OPC’s assertions yeterday, I still can’t find ANY conclusive proof that this is the case.....!! Unsure as to how he could have seemed so convinced, as there has certainly been nothing “official” to suggest this that I can find....

This is very interesting info however hardly surprising if you understand the mechanisms of modern day factory manufacturing..I recall very recently seeing detailed diagrams of the 9A1 engine showing how modular it is..Basically the whole engine fits together in various configurations depending on what component is grabbed off the parts shelf.
Another great example of Porsche marketing geniuses exerting its quite considerable influence..!

I have no idea where you've got the idea that the GT3 engine is just an uptuned MA1. Yes it might share a coil pack or a nut and bolt here, but you've obviously never physically looked at them side by side. Massive massive differences. Yes they're from the same engine lineage, but the differences are huge and not much of the boggo MA1 remains.

I can't do much on a lunch break but if you're interested, I can list exactly what makes it incredibly different later on tonight.

Yes would be very interested to read a bit of engine geekery.
Thanks

Love this stuff— certainly beats the circular arguments surrounding Turbo vs N/A GT4....!!

But in reality you just have to drive the new GT3 and GT4 back to back to realise that there is a whole world of different in the performance and feel of the GT3 motor.

If the detuned version is closer in feel to he GT3's unit then fan bloody tastic in my view...

Not a chance IMHO. It'll feel like a 4.0 version of the 3.8, which is essentially what it'll be...

^^^ +1

At the price point/performance level targeted by the GT4, how could it really be any different...?? The level of restriction necessary to give the GT3 “clear air”— in terms of both price & performance— would require such a severe level of detune of the current 4L GT3 motor, I imagine it will feel much like the current GT4, and most definitely without a 9k redline.... I hope I’m wrong— well, sort of, as i likely haven’t kissed enough ass to get an allocation anyhow— but I somehow doubt it....

That’s why I’m probs just going to “de-restrict” my current GT4, rather than hang around playing the “will it, won’t it” game over the new model.... LOL— Porsche will probably unleash a 485hp GT4-RS screamer now....!!
