Noobie launch control question

I've just acquired a 2010 standard Cayman, that has a PDK box and Sports Chrono package, that gives me Sport and Sport + buttons.
Does this mean that a launch control system is fitted to the car, and if so, is there a procedure you need to go through to enable launch control so as not to shag the clutch as you stand on the brake and hit the revs?

Why, oh why, oh why does no one appear to read the user manual for very complex machines?
Very impressed with my plumber/bathroom fitter the other day. Read all the fitting instructions for everything before starting. I said, 'nice to see' - he is not a newbie or a spring chicken. 'I always read them' he says, something might have changed as the parts develop; takes little time and saves money in the long term'.
Needless to say, he will be doing more work in Bennachie Towers..........

You're assuming I actually got an owners manual with the car.
Is this the level of friendliness and helpfulness I can expect from typical Porsche owners, or is this just the usual sarccy PH standard response to simple questions posted in this forum?

Well, there has been the odd poster who proclaimed (as a matter of principle) he didn't read the manual. So you may be getting a bit of backlash from that. I do think that the manual, if you have it, ought to be the first port of call before posting a query here. Even if the car didn't come with a manual, a quick Google would have found a pdf version. And if you ask for a link to that, someone is going to post a lmgtfy link Anyway the procedure is to stick it in Sport+, left foot firmly on brake, full throttle then let go of brake. PDK is a wet clutch system so no real issues with clutch life.

Accepting that wet clutches are probably less prone to wear, are you sure about that? Bike clutches (which are normally wet) do wear and if abused can need replacement at modest mileages. Given that any gearbox/clutch problem means a complete replacement box I'm not sure I'd use launch control on a regular basis. Magic919 said:

But how many cars with launch control, which has been used a lot AND have done (say) 50k miles are there? I suspect very few because, with the NA the gains (though real) aren't massive subjectively. With the turbo engines the story is a bit different. Pull out of a junction smartly and turbo lag does intrude quite noticeably. So I think (if I had a 718) I'd be much more inclined to use launch control (or, in my case LFB) to circumvent the lag.

That's my point. With the 981 you'd probably do it for a bit of fun, once or twice and then forget all about it.
