Recently bought a 2008 Cayman S which is absolutely brilliant. Previous owner had the extended Porsche warranty which has already proved useful. He also recently changes all 4 brake pads but not the discs. The front ones are lipped and probably need replacing soon. Question is, if I go outside the OPC world and get a specialist to do it (rather cheaper I suspect) will I have a warranty problem? The local OPC has already noted the problem so I am worried that getting a specialist to do it will be obvious when I next get the car serviced (probably in January) by the OPC.

Personally I won't be buying brake parts from an OPC a much better deal can be had from motor factors, plus the discs are really easy to replace even if you only have basic mechanical skills.

Shop around and save a good bit of cash.

As for the warranty...brakes are consumable parts so are not covered, the OPC really has no say in the matter.
Thanks - that is very useful. Out of interest, how much do you reckon is right for front discs only?

You'll need new pad's too...

4 Damping plates - http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/Porsche_Caym...

CP15LESS code get you £15 off for very £100 spent, so order separately in multiples of £100 for max discount.

4 new caliper securing bolts are required too, they cost about £3 each from Porsche.

Not too expensive are they.
Thanks so much for this!

it would be OK as far as the existing warranty was concerned, unless some failure could be linked to the discs (Unlikely) but it is worth noting they would fail a 111 check if you chose to renew the warranty at the end of its current term.

It is fairly easy to tell genuine discs as although you are correctly informed they are often not stamped with a part number they are imprinted with a kite symbol.

Hope thats useful.

Cheers
Thanks. That is an issue as I want to renew the warranty next April. Maybe it does need to go to the OPC after all.
