Almost in a position to purchase a Cayman R... Options?
Discussion
Hi all,
Bit of background: I really want a 997.2 GT3, but as they keep going up/not coming down to sensible levels, it’s out until I win the lottery.
I did think about a 997.2 S, but any will depreciate as they age and mileage goes up. The GTS seems to be better at holding value but as it’s also gone above (my budget) what I feel are VFM prices, that’s also out.
So, 987.2 S it is, but is it special enough? Probably yes, but man maths puts me in Cayman R territory, which does feel special, and is holding value better than most (it would appear anyway).
Given that I’m a manual man (yes, I’ve driven PDK and appreciate how ‘brilliant’ it is on track), a quick look at autotrader offers these:
Have to upload a pic of the table as PH formatting is ste:
Love the blue one, but lack of buckets puts me off.
Like the first grey one, but mileage/non Porsche history puts me off.
I know it was a no cost option but how the fudge does a 50k sports car not come with Nav!?
My ‘must haves’ are: Buckets, Nav, FPSH, Spyders, Air con. PCCBs and PSE would be nice... I’d also like to avoid anything with a rear wiper, though I know I could delete that.
Which would you pick and why?

Thanks for the replies all, didn't expect so many just yet - thought you'd all be at work (as I am...)
MrD, I'd rather not pay over £40k for one, but that's the market and I wasn't in a position to look when they were mid £30s. I get that you hate PCM, but, as I do European trips at least once a year, having to stick a £200 Garmin to the windscreen of a Porsche is taking the piss...
Aren't Sport Chrono, cup holders & Xenons standard equipment?
Seems I also forgot to put Extended Leather on my 'must have' list...
PSE & Short Shifter are retrofittable (yes, that is a word!), so not the end of the world if it doesn't come with. Bose doesn't interest me much as I hardly ever listen to music in the car unless on a Euro trip and if the standard system on my M3 is good enough, the Porsche one can't be any worse.
The HR Owen car was at first glance almost perfect, but it doesn't have nav (see above reason). Gone
I have since seen the JZM car, and updated my little spreadsheet - seems a little pricey comparatively.
There's a perfect R (for someone else) at Portsmouth OPC, but it's PDK, and has a red interior

The R does not need PSE, it sounds just great as it is. The PSE of a mate's measured 110 db at Oulton Park and therefore you can't use it on track days (my standard exhaust only just passed at 104 db), so it's only of use for wanting to be noticed.
Standard R is 104db? That's GT3 territory!Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
