Hi all, run an mx5 turbo with around 220bhp which i have used for trackdays but it's a bit raw and think i might be growing out of it. Plus i don't do anywhere near the number of trackdays i used to. So would like something I can use for most of the year and also take the other half out without rattling her about or deafening her and am thinking boxster (don't want to spend more than about 6k and fed up of mazda's rusting) - either the 2.7 or 3.2 (for the improved brakes). I have a 996 I know all about the reputation of the engine/ IMS etc so not worried there.

What I don't know is if the oil surge issues under cornering are a concern for trackdays and if the deep sump is enough?

Also does the folding roof fit over a safety devices rear cage?

Anything else I should keep in mind?

I'd be changing the seats for buckets, upgrading pads / fluid and probably installing some adjustable suspension

Cheers

Thanks - mods will be mild as still want something with reasonable road manners.

I'd actually probably go completely stock for the first one so i could decide what I want doing but the bracing sounds good - is something available off the shelf?

Cheers ed - I have found a local engineering place that I'm sure could knock me up something, looks pretty simple

Cheers - I sold my 944 S2 last year, think I'd rather the prospect of taking a street boxster on track than the stock 944 - it was a bit too 'comfy'...!

The safety devices description seems to imply you can fit it either as a full or half cage. I'd want to see that the cage was higher than the hoops for protection in the first place - I do prefer the looks of the full bar than the hoops but imagine the rearward stays would give better strength too - but the full cage would probably be too much for the road.

The roll cage bar would also be used for harnesses mounting - did you have your bucket seat just with the standard seat belt? I'd like to have both as I do on my mx5 at the moment.

And did you run a 'square' set up on tyres then rather than wider rears?

Thanks
I'll of course see how I get on with the buckets - will probably have to be on sliders rather than bolted straight to the floor but hopefully can still take an inch or two height out (I'm 6 ft).
Brakes was the main reason for wanting the S - the more powerful engine would be a bonus smile

Would have loved to have kept the 944 but it sat right inbetween the 996 and mx5, and did neither job quite as well. Plus i didn't really have the space for it frown itch scratched tho, wanted one for ages!! Heard they do take very well to the track when modded 😀

Yep c4 is the same. I hear boxster s brakes go on the 2.7 fine on the front - but it's more complicated on the rear? Everything is so easy I the mx5, everything fits everything else just bolt on!!
