After major heart surgery a few years ago I promised myself that if I got through it, to buy a Porsche.

I like the Macan, and a friend said to go for at least 2019 as it is the newer shape and the 3 litre version.

I am likely to keep the car long term so please could I have some help, as to what options should I look for, as this will be my first ever luxury car. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

Harvey.

The only options that matter are the ones that matter to you.

I like extended leather, the 18 way seats, heated of course, upgraded stereo.

Anything else is just a bonus.

We've had a 2016 Macan Diesel S for many years and are just changing this now, my opinions are based on my experience of the older model and also experience of the Cayenne.

Air suspension, especially if you have larger alloys, this would be the first option I would tick.
18 way seats, much more comfortable than the 8 way
Pan roof, especially if the interior is black
Privacy Glass, again personal preference
In my opinion the BOSE sound system is as good as the Burmester
Park Assist front a rear

Hope this helps

I would avoid the car with the base petrol engine….it is pretty ordinary and not very Porsche. You can look at earlier cars…we’ve got a 2018 Turbo Perf Pack. has a 3.6 engine and plenty of poke. Owned since new and have driven more recent cars…differences are minimal. Only thing I would say is if you get an earlier one get one with Apple Car

I'd advise making a post / checking on www.macanforums.co.uk/ where there are many active posters (including myself) who are, naturally, Macan owners.

In general, though - the consensus is to look for something like:

- 2.9L engine (S or GTS)

- Surround view cameras

- Leather package if on S. GTS has a specific interior which many also upgrade, but some do not.

- 18 way seat if S. GTS come with 8-way sports seats which are the same shape as the 18 way seats, so personal preference to upgrade for the extra adjustability with GTS.

Outside of that, everything else is personal preference and budget. I quite like electronic aids like adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring, many others do not. For my GTS I didn't spec the sunroof as I don't like them and it's 80kg of weight at the highest point in the car, but many won't set foot inside a car that doesn't have a sunroof.

So it's up to you.

Come join us on Macan forum, some posters have cars for sale or post when they see a good deal out in the wild. Right now Porsche Hatfield have some well optioned, good value S' for example.

Air suspension is a nice option, lowers the ride height and stiffens everything up when you feel like getting a push on

What’s the verdict on the turbo, the 2015-2017 cars are very appealing & I suspect will be even better value in the coming months.

Turbo has slightly softer suspension that the GTS…our Turbo Perf Pack has the GTS suspension which I think is great and rides very well despite the big wheels etc.

14-way seats are fine and come with electric steering column and memory.
I have them in both the 2019 Macan S and 981 Cayman.
Didn't like standard seats in either car so avoid 8-way unless you try them and prefer them to 14/18-way. You won't.

Standard PASM is excellent if you can't find air. Maybe try both and decide? We went standard after trying each.

75 litre fuel tank, optional - you'll get 20-30mpg.

Pan roof - for resale mainly.

Privacy glass - oddly, if you don't find a car with auto dimming mirrors, the privacy glass cuts out most of the rear view mirror glare.

Bose IS good on the S.

Late 2018-on Gen 2, as denoted by the upgraded wide screen and tech, keeps the centre console buttons as opposed to Gen 3 glass console. I prefer the buttons as do a lot of reviewers I noticed. The sweet spot perhaps?

Gen 2 avoids transfer box issues of Gen 1 and gives the full width rear light bar as opposed to Gen 1 individual rear lights. May help you determine which a 2018 car is.

Buy from OPC with 2yr+ warranty.

I bought one 5 months ago ,I settled on the ‘s’ as it’s a second car for dog runs etc so the gts was not required .
The car I bought was incredibly well optioned I think £25k of options so pretty much everything you would want .

When I looked these were my priorities
Air suspension
Bose
18 ways
Some decent interior trim (xtended leather etc)

With the s model I struggled finding ones with air ,only 2 existed on sale at the time so I would consider then be edits if paying extra for the gts model if it’s going to be your main car .

So I have a 2018 Macan 2.0 Petrol. I did originally want an S but delivery times in 2018 were too long and a highly spec’d non S car became available so I took that one instead.

Agree with the earlier post around very nice to haves:
- pan roof with sun roof
- extended leather
- 18 way electric memory seats
- reverse camera
- Bose
- apple CP
- RS spyder wheels
- sports exhaust
- air/sport suspension
- cruise
- heated wheel
- folding mirrors/ dimming mirrors
- this car has the walnut steering wheel (id have never have spec’d it but it looks lovely in the car with cream leather)
- upgraded headlights

Having run this along side a DBX for comparison and id say it’s more comfortable, more fun and plenty quick enough so don’t discount it.

In fact, I’m keeping the Macan and changing the DBX :0)

Thank you again for all your input.

It appears a new car makes better sense than a year old?

A rather important question is how much do you want to pay Harvey?
