Having previously owned a C2 996 I was looking for either a 964, 928 S4 or 944 turbo, bit of a difference in price range I know but it had to be something that I could keep for a while and appreciate.

I really like it, it feels like I've had it for years after just a week.

Maybe a few contributions from me in this forum in the future.

For now, a few bits to sort and a whiz over to a friendly mechanic for a full run down.

I just wanted to share my joy smile
Now that is quite a change from what you owned previously? How does it compare to the 996? Most 996 owners seem to go the other way, or not even consider a 944.

It looks like a lovely example. May you enjoy it (it sounds like you already are) and may it serve you well.

Thank you, I hope I will and that it does smile

Well, I wanted something to keep long term, I am also looking for a 964 or SC as a bit of a project.

Its a different car obviously and fun, I am a little impatient waiting for the turbo but when it comes smile

They both handle well and perfectly balanced, I felt more connection with the 911 but I had it 9 years so I really new it. It does feel right though, I think I need to get it through a mini medical and on to the track while the sun is still shining smile

Does it have any mods at all? They really were pegged down out of the factory (a car very much designed by engineers and tempered by the marketing people!), so if it doesn't have them already I'd recommend changing the chips, replacing the cycling valve with a boost regulator or an EBC and fitting a dual port wastegate. This really does bring them to life and gives the car the junior supercar performance it was designed to have in the first place.

They're very over engineered so can take far more than just the above with ease and they're so much better to drive in an 'un-pegged' state.

It has the Promax Level 2 kit http://www.promaxmotorsport.co.uk/products/89-leve...which has been on there for a few years, I would be interested to see what other options there are or any other ideas.

Put better suspension and tyres on it or buy a faster car, it will be cheaper.

If it already has that lot on it then that's all you need unless you really want to start chasing numbers.

As Blade7 say's any further expenditure is best directed to suspension. Mine has the original Koni M474 package and a Weltmeister rear ARB fitted and it's comically soft at times as is demonstrated below:

It's great on the bumpy and twisty B-roads around me though so I'm in no rush to upgrade mine just yet... I guess yours has the M030 package being a later car but I don't think it was that much firmer.

You can run 18lbs boost with the Pmax L2 kit on a fit engine, if not already fitted an external boost gauge and AFR kit are a good idea.

Without boasting (too much), drive a car with KWs and come back to say that wink. Besides it being fresh suspension (which makes a world of difference to any car) you really can have your cake and eat it but at quite a cost. Whilst some B roads can unsettle mine (mine is very low though, lower than most lowered 944s) it is far better than what my S2 was on almost all roads (even speed bumps; not that I attack them like a fool, but you get the idea smile).

However, if I was buying the suspension myself I would probably be tempted to go with Gaz, on the basis you would get 80% of the drivability of the KWs for almost half of what they cost. M030s are said to be far firmer on the road with various peeps I have spoken to (especially if they are tired units) but they will only do for the origninality peeps (a chap who almost bought my 951 was talking of doing this to my car).

I would fully agree that suspension is the best next step for your 944 bonus99 smile.

I've got the KW's set fairly firm on my turbo, despite the bypass valves it's still quite a choppy ride on bad tarmac. Perhaps they have improved but there were pics of rusty Gaz shocks on forums when I was buying.

Thanks for the info and if I do upgrade it probably will be KW's as they seem to be way ahead of anything else; although I'm not sure I agree on the Gaz's as my experience of them is the ride quality is very poor. Maybe the cars I've been in have been poorly set up, but they felt way off the mark so I can't see that could have been improved that much.

Although part of me would like to retain originality for resale, so my other alternative is to have the koni's rebuilt and maybe run firmer welt front springs and maybe even m030 torsion bars. But them again if a decent used set of KW's pop up I'd be all over them!
