Yes but they are all a mix of private not so nice or dealer overpriced ?

What can you see out there worth the money ?

I was hoping to get a G50 box , or is that not necessary ?

915 box fine if it's in good condition. Bit lighter than G50 too.

3.2 boat sailed long ago, a lot of crusty crud out there for last years money, anything decent is collecting strong money, £30k+ and for the next little while isn't going to slow down...we all needed to fill our boots years ago

Owner realises he has a good one.

Owner realises that there are no good ones about any more when he checks the ads/net.

Owner realises that if he sells his 3.2 then.

1, he won't be able to find another.

2, the price will have increased thus his 3.2 in garage is better than money in the bank (a dead fish is better than money in the bank with these heady interest rates).

Owner realises how good the 3.2 is after taking it out for a proper thrashing.

Owner decides to keep his rust free good 3.2.

All other owners who own good 3.2's think the same.

No good RHD 3.2's are thus on market.

Purchasers for good cars are in excess of sellers.

Prices rise massively.

Repeat

It's simple supply and demand. Purchases have set their sights a bit lower so lesser 3.2's are fetching silly money. Plus dealers take what they can get stock wise and have to pay strong thus this is passed on to punter and the whole sorry situation perpetuates..

Unless supply alters and interest rates are performing as meaty as rare classics then this situation will continue.

The government won't put up interest rates as it's political suicide not to mention old cars do not pay CGT.

Oh and plenty sneaked out to Oz/NZ and other RHD countries a la C2 964 Coupe.

Not good if you want one but handy if you have one and fancy a change..

Can I suggest an XJS as its default rival in the day?!

If this was a silver 3.2 G50 coupe with 66k miles it would be probably £60k at a dealer chancing his arm..

There will be some that are, along with BMW 635CSi, Mercedes SL (89-01), there's a few classic late 80's-ish classics that can be bought for under £10k. Obviously those buyers will quickly realise that a 911 is no longer an option.

Correct. The M635i is surely on par with a 3.2.

Utter m-power autobahn smasher! I also like the 8 series.

Lovely shape but not really a classic to keep in the garage for Sundays.

Yet...

Hi Darren

Have you had a look at the guards red 1984 cab I'm selling?

Lovely, honest car. Fantastic condition.

Give me a shout if you wants to know any more!

This one looks cheap -

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

Cabs and Targas often look scruffier than Coupes (particularly the roofs and interiors). This one looks a bit rougher round the edges. 86 was the change over year from 915 to G50.

Dealer probably doesn't know much about 911s - usual awful pictures, poorly prep'd, and those wheels rolleyes

Depends on your view and what you want. M635 is an 80s icon and looks fabulous in my opinion. Which is more fun? Hard to say as it depends on what you find fun...

Yes of course, but the point was that it is very unlikely that someone is considering both a 911 or an XJS, they are so different and so attract different types of buyers.

I'd defo consider a M635i although I never liked them when i was a kid as they looked too del boy. All the people I remember driving them seemed to wear sheepskin coats! Its aged gracefully and time has been kind to it. I love XJS too but remember an old boss' car which always went wrong and eye watering bills from main dealers!
