Good point, but no one likes having all their profit in stock that is not selling, whatever is supposed to be happening to the value of that stock. Paper gains are fine in theory, but you have to pay overheads and live. Traders need to trade to stay in business.
Dealers can make the same profit by turning over stock quickly with low margins or low numbers and high margins. Specialist dealers have more insight into the market than us, they can gauge market appetite by amount of inquiries, no of cars being offered to them and both public & some private sales on an international level. If they have problem replenishing a certain stock then price will stay firm or even go up. I guess at the end of the day it all depends on their financial reserve and customer base. Either way all dealers have bread & butter cars that takes care of monthly sales and sleepers that just sit there for the right customer.Small bump: Is £45k not cheap for a RHD 2.2?
I like targas, and I like this colour!

The value of the car depends on a lot of factors. The market is getting quite fussy and seems to prefer Coupes by a big margin.
OK this is T.H., and very ambitious 'spring' pricing, but a huge difference http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p... No interior shots so can't tell if it has the desirable recaro seats

Its a long long time since I swatted up on pre IB 911s, but shouldnt there be a plate visable between the rear footwells? It was to gain access to something or other if memory serves.
no RHD targas before 1973 , so this is a LHD - RHD conversion .. that never helps the price as its quite a big job on a 911. 2.2T is defiantely more of a cruser as not the biggest horsepower by a long way .. 125 bhp from memory.
Also, ' restoration' means different things to different people. This one appears to consist of retrimmed seats, new carpets and a shiney paint job. Incorrect door panels and the engine doesn't look like its been touched apart from a cheap shiney coil etc being fitted.
Saying that, its a pretty car and you'd need to see it in the flesh really to see if its worth the money. Would be a nice car to cruise around in on a sunny summers evening

Conversions can be very difficult to sell. It's a Targa (personally I like but market discounts). Doors done on the cheap. And I didn't realise 4 speed box was available? But could be a lot of fun for £45k.Also, ' restoration' means different things to different people. This one appears to consist of retrimmed seats, new carpets and a shiney paint job.
