Agree. My first Porsche was a 205bhp SC, used as my daily, in London, and maintained by Charles Follett and Malaya.
Although that's a nicely presented ad, I'd be looking for a G50 3.2 Carrera - still one of my favourite 911s - better engine, gearbox, heating, and numerous little detail improvements. But, as advised, buy carefully and have it PPI'd.
Plus lighter clutch, possibility of aircon too. But I would respectfully suggest your wife drives one for an extended period of time to make 100% sure she really could live with one as a daily driver.Although that's a nicely presented ad, I'd be looking for a G50 3.2 Carrera - still one of my favourite 911s - better engine, gearbox, heating, and numerous little detail improvements. How about a 964 cab tip? An unusual coloured one was bid to £22k at H and H Duxford last week and could be bought for less than £30k. I think that would make a decent everyday car for a lady. Pm me and I can put you in touch with a man who could make that happen for you.

There's also a rather nice one here too SC at Gmund Cars

I took the other halves 993C2S Tip to LeMans one year. Stuck the cruise on at 130kmh and enjoyed the drive and the disappointed look on plods faces as we cruised passed their radar guns.
That'll be Autocar for you!

Yuk, 964 tip, the definition of agricultural!
Actually, when Autocar first tested the then new 964 Tiptronic (1990 iirc), it was a guards red cab, and their headline on the front cover, was "And Why the Best 911 Yet is an Automatic"Wozy68 said:

£43k for a LHD with 160k miles... they must be having a laugh!!!Really, mileage on a 35+ year old car is largely irrelevant, it's not GT3 or a Ferrari, condition is king and they are great cars for actually driving, especially in LHD which is better in my opinion. There was a time when LHD was cheaper, but I am not so sure that is the case any more.
I will declare a vested interest, I have known this car for the last 14 years, it's stunning and sounds amazing. It's also VERY fast

I ran a SC targa as a daily 20 years ago. Loved that car. Bought for £12500 sold 12,000 miles and 18 months later for £11900! Thought I done really well .
Guards red with cup alloys (was the rage back then to put modern wheels on an older 911) and a whale tail. How I wish I had it now on a set of Fuch's and no spoiler.
As a daily it was great, I had a nice 15 mile drive at the time and it made most days a pleasure. As said they need to be used as much as possible.
I had a 3.2 shortly after, it was a better car but strangley I preffered the SC.

You have to laugh, the original car posted up is worrying because it has only done 2K miles a year in its 38 year life, this one is too high at 4.5K yearly miles in its years.

I agree with all of this, though I'd put the cutoff at 10 years old and apply it to everything. Mileage is only a surrogate for wear; it really only works partially, and then mainly for younger cars. Beyond that point, LOADS of other factors come into play. You're buying what's in front of you.Really, mileage on a 35+ year old car is largely irrelevant, it's not GT3 or a Ferrari, condition is king and they are great cars for actually driving, especially in LHD which is better in my opinion. I'm still yet to own a 911 but the SC has always been a favourite. I drove an early SWB 2.4 many years ago, which was what got me hooked into wanting a 911 someday, but a non spoilered SC is the car I hope to own. Mind you, that 2.4 was only £7K and goodness knows what it'd be worth today?Guards red with cup alloys (was the rage back then to put modern wheels on an older 911) and a whale tail. I had the 911 itch that needed scratching too. Looked at everything from 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Looked at some pretty bad ones and equally others looked nice but just weren’t when I went to see them. I ended up buying a car that had done pretty high miles (170k) but mechanically the car had been really well looked after and mechanically it was solid...exactly what i was looking for. Bodywork was generally solid and they way I figured - if it becomes a long term keeper (looking that way) then i’ probably won’t mind spending some money on body work in a few years.
I ended up choosing an 3.2 1989...with the G50 gearbox...Coupes command more money but for what I use it for (sunny days usually) my little girls and me prefer the targa.
I’d definitely recommend impactbumpers forum, and also i found the the 3.2 carerra’s 85-89 were ‘value for money’ if you could even say that for Porsche Classics.
Good luck, I love mine, can’t think of anything else at the moment that seats my little kids and me that I would replace it with.

FWIW that wasn’t an SWB car, Mark. Having owned and driven a broad range of 911s I’d say that the real difference between an SC and a 3.2 is minuscule and as such I’d always go for the 3.2. To sink £40 into an SC right now takes a brave man, but find a GPW G50 3.2 Coupe in original condition for that money and you’d be a shrewd investor.
