Wanting a 993 but lacking confidence!
Discussion
It’s probably the 993 I’d choose, I really like it, as a non Porsche purist.
However with 80k to spend, you could have a Cayman GT4 or even a 991 GT3 - both surely offer a better driving experience and easier resale when the time comes.
Totally different cars of course but that’s how my brain worked when I saw the car you’re looking at.

If your heart is set on a 993, I'd be tempted to stretch the budget and buy this from the same dealer...

I had a silver 993 C4S with the Turbo factory bodykit and it's the best looking car I've ever owned. One that I'd definitely buy back if I had the opportunity. For me personally, the newer stuff at the same price doesn't have quite the same appeal and I suspect there are plenty of other people with the same view.

Ive seen the 993 in question when I dropped of my 997 GT3 for a service.
The colour and condition looked great.
With what I could see I assumed it was a customer that wanted to get the most driving fun out of a 993.
As others suggested I'd go and see the team at RPM. I traded my 993 C4S with them for the GT3.
Had my 993 for 10years and drove 100k miles. It was a keeper....but the GT3 is in another league and not once do I look at 993's and think I'd like to go back.
At the time the 993 had 160k miles, it sold quickly to a gent who went to enquire about a Boxster...So go see them, take a look at the 993's they have and drive them. Then try the GT3 they have.
The only car now that would get me out of the GT3 is the black Touring they have in the showroom, if I had the funds to put to it.

You've effectively gone from the heaviest, bluntest N/A, "fur coat no knickers" 993's, to one of the sharpest iterations of the Gen 1 997. So hardly a fair comparison if I may say so The colour and condition looked great.

To the OP, get yourself over to RPMT, drive the 993, ask all the relevant questions, including those posed on this thread, and decide if YOU enjoy driving it. Because irrespective of what others have said on this thread, it's what YOU want from a car, not what other random strangers on an internet, that you've never met, may think of it.
Comparisons between 996/997 GT3's and a mildly (and if I may say so, thoughtfully) tweaked 993, are futile, both the 996/7 iterations of GT3 are cars built with track use in mind, which ultimately makes them a compromise for use on the road (especially with the state our roads are in, and will only get worse)
Yes , the GT3's Mezger engine is a masterpiece, but ultimately how often will you get the chance to use it's 8000+ rpm rev range as it's maker intended on the road ? From experience, not that much.
The joys of a well driven, well fettled air-cooled car are far more accessible, and at saner speeds too, and that's something that's becoming evermore relevant on our roads, as the ICE car becomes increasingly execrated.
We look forward to your road test report of the 993

wow, that has a lovely body, Turbo S and that color fits it well, nice example.https://rpmtechnik.co.uk/porsche-sales/vehicle/993...

I'm sure I'd love driving it but don't have enough knowledge to know if this would be a desirable car or whether anything would put off those with greater experience of the marque than I have.
On the bolded bit - don't assume! Have you driven any aircooled 911s before? If not, and depending on what you've enjoyed driving thus far, a 993 might feel very anachronistic.Fulla said:

As above. You might like the focussed nature of a GT3 and the 993 you're considering, or you it might make you realise a standard 993 (or a bunch of other 911 options!) are preferable for you. If you're concerned about depreciation and saleability in future, buy a really nice original car privately (after an inspection by a reputable specialist).
(ETA as someone who enjoyed classic car ownership for several years before experiencing the hugely improved performance from a tactile modern car)

I remember when the 993 came to and wasn't keen, I have never really liked the shape on them tbh, Porsche wanted to fit 4V heads for more power and consumption and changed from air and oil, to air, water and oil cooling, seemed like reasonable evolution to me !
I'd go 964 or 997 personally and skip the 993 and 996 with a few exceptions

never driven a 993, but still remember the first time I saw a 993 C2S with its wider rear and different spoiler part rear, looked supercool, it was outside by a Porsche dealer and was thinking, wow, would be nice if I was that rich :-)
I knew the normal 993, but with those I was always fighting between the 964 or a 993, was a difficult choice, but then later that C2S with the wider rear, hm, lovely and more rare I guess.
The last air-cooled 911, yes a 997 would be 'better' but if you want an aircooled example, such 993 could be it, although personally I'm sometimes thinking of buying a 964 turbo and tune it with modern turbo's and so on, I like those Turbo looks best, although a 930 Turbo as a basis could also do the trick, some are exempt of road tax :-) you could make RS or ST look from them incl modern turbo's or remove the turbo's and instal a supercharger? lol.

Keep in mind that RPM is a highly respected Porsche specialist. Of course, you still have to do your due diligence, but if I would be buying, I’d have the utmost confidence buying from them.
Did they do the work on the car? If so, this is another plus and would be a big plus too coming resale.
IMO, this is a far better car/value than the stock silver car with 100k miles @£60k posted above.
If you like the look of it and how it drives, imho £80k for a well sorted air cooled 911 seems good value to me!
