hi clarkey, why do you say the 964RS is a riskier purchase ? is this because they are all over 10 years old, or may have been used too enthusiastically ?
I don't know much about the Noble but have been on track at same time a few times ( I was in the RS) and they seem to be fast into corners and out of corners which suggests two things (a) they are significantly lighter than the 911 (b) the power to weight ratio is better. Maybe also (c) there is better downforce. Never seen any being driven to track though !
Why not treat the purchase as a 1-2 year project, choose either dependent on the best car turning up at the time, run it, if not completely happy then swap it out like you did with the R500. Rich people solve this problem by having a stable of suitable machines..

I see the RS as a (relatively) risky purchase as I'll have no warranty or factory backup on a 10 year old car that has been used 'enthusiastically'. I'm also slightly concerned about buying a nail, a fake or an unoriginal car. I know a decent pre-purchase inspection will reduce these risks, and that is exactly what I'll do.

RS is a more appealing buy at the moment. If the right car comes along at the right price, I'll buy it.

If you want a good car call Tom Schmitz of H-S Automobile - he is one of the main sources of rs's in europe. If you tell him what you want he will come back with options over time. IMHO Tom is very genuine, and has a lot to lose if he sold you a "nail". I bought my car from him, and I am very happy with it!!

Mine's an H & S car too, and there are plenty of other happy customers out there -www.911-rs.de.

Go on, get a 964RS, you know it makes sense.

BTW, lets look at depreciation.........list price for a 964RS in 1992 was £63K.............

I'll add my name to the Thomas supporters - I bought a 993 RS off him and it was exactly as described. I was looking for a high-ish mileage car (for an RS that is) rather than a pristine example, and Thomas told me every single tiny bit that was not quite perfect. Very trustworthy. He does a load of business in the UK, and can't afford to lose such a strong reputation.

Ouch, in real terms £63k in 1992 is more like £90k today...makes a GT3 seem cheap.

Thanks for the tip about H&S, this is exactly the type of advice I need.

Ditto

I bought ny RS from H&S. It's been a real blast for the past four years.

Also try :
1) www.gtclassics.co.uk
2) Join the PCGB and look in the back of their magazine.
3) Buy 911 & Porsche World & look in the back of that.
