Swapping 993 exhaust tips ?
Discussion
I was looking around for some replacement exhaust tips, and someone recommended these Dansk ones so I bought a set.
http://www.supertweaks.com/porsche/porsche-exhaust...
I've had them kicking around the shed for a while now and would like to get them fitted.
Is it something I can do myself easily with the car still on the ground ??
I had a quick look and there appears to be one bolt holding a bracket around the existing tip to the exhaust - I'm assuming some WD40, let it soak in, remove the bolt, wiggle the old tip (or persuade gently with a rubber mallet) off, clean up bracket and set back over exhaust, install new tips and tighten bracket ???
Cheers

Yup, I did my own. I had to cut off the holding brackets though as they were rusted solid. http://www.supertweaks.com/porsche/porsche-exhaust...

I'd personally buy new ones anyway and dip the threads in copper grease to stop them rusting again.
Normally when re-attaching keep the the holding brackets to the btm of the exhaust as again it makes them easier to get at later if needed.
Type 911 is your friend for new holding brackets.
I also have the Dansk ones, they are not quite as cool as the OE parts but alot cheaper and look alot better than the OE originals.

Any photos with these tips on your car? They look very shiny and 'aftermarket' though perhaps maybe they darken up with increased usage..?Edited by avaF1 on Tuesday 15th July 12:29

The only one I got on this PC which unfortunatly doesn't show them too well is this one.
HTH
Thanks for a very quick response. I was chatting with a 993 owner the other day who was looking at these tips but put off by the insides being shiny and reflective. Yours don't seem to have stayed like that, they don't look too 'aftermarket' at all. Any other pics you may have showing how they fill the bumper cut out, how far they protrude, etc. welcomed. HTH
Great looking car by the way.

I can't remember them even from new being overally shiny. Saying that though they have dulled down a bit.
They look (well to me at least) as if they were OE, they fit the bumper aperatures very wel. I remember after installing thinking have I gone a little too 'boy racer' installing them. Luckily I did a before and after picture and the originals suddenly looked very tiny.
They protrude about 10MM out from the bumper aperature, about the same as the originals, so don't jutt out at all.
I have to admit I like them. They do need a little looking after if thats your thing to keep tiptop, for me they have settled down nicely. Wouldn't take alot to bring them back up to as new if required. The OE wide tips do look a little better, but seriously not £400.00 more better.
For the £140.00 or so I paid for them I think they are an absolute bargain, and IMO look right.

You're welcome!

Black really suits a 911, of any era.
This photo courtesy of Google Images shows the shiny insides:

The black insides if yours look closer to OEM.

Couple of pics of the Dansk tips on my much loved but sadly departed C4...
Another great looking 993, and whilst they may be Dansk, they are most definitely different to the ones in the OP (they follow the bumper aperatures, yours not so much).OP ones --

Turbo and NB are different I remember that.
OP, cutting off is the norm as they are usually corroded to hell and quite often break whilst undoing anyway. Hence replacement
Best of luck with it though
PS mines MBM not black, just looks it in sunlight

I looove my 993 and can't help but chav it up a little to make her more my own.
This includes RSR silencers and go faster chav style large tailpipes. The wife now thinks my dear old 911 sounds like a tractor though.

Yep OPC gave 10% off with pcgb membership but I reckon there is a good chance you would get that anyway or try jasmine. Phone around a few OPC as they may also post for free ;-)
You can get an idea of look pre / post fitment on my rsr videos

Sorry for the delay in updating this thread.
So after attempting the change myself - I gave up and had it done at my local specialist when I had the car serviced - picked it up today.
Apparently they not only had to cut the old clamps off, but also shorten the exhaust pipes.
The results are not an OEM look - but I think it makes the rear of the car look more "symmetrical". Much nicer than the old square tips.
Photo's tomorrow when it's daylight.
