Race Bike in a 993
Discussion
Hello,
I am going on a road trip on Friday to Hendaye and would like to know if anyone has successfully packed a race bike into their 993?
I am hoping that I will be able to get the frame on the back seats and the wheels in the front boot.
Any help would be great, as I would prefer if I don't have anything mounted externally on the car for the trip.
I'm really looking forward to the drive as it's around 1000km each way and going to be along some great roads.
Thank you
aide

Thanks, I will have a look for that MTB fitting if it's available online.
My car is at BS motorsport at the minute for a few bits and pieces.
And I only booked the trip today..
The wheels are 28" 700c's and the frame is a 56".
I'm sure I'll get it in once the saddle/setpost and pedals are removed.

I knew I had a photo somewhere - I have suitable Thule feet and bars, and if you affix them far back on the roof gutters, they sit below the roof line.
I plan to fit skis and snowboard only, so no weight. You could put the bike frame on this with total security, and the wheels in the boot?
Just make sure you fit it with the spoiler deployed

^^^ I seen that!
I did a bit of a search before I posted and couldn't find anything.
That is pretty amusing.
(the Ferrari was in harry's garage btw OC)

However, I still think I can get the frame in the back as that guy has tri bars on his bike.
And, I think he didn't want to completely dismantle his bike as it was setup so precisely.

I got my road bike in my 997 (wheels off, headset loose and seat post out ) wheels wouldn't go in the front, so they went with the frame behind the seats, I had no passenger so pushed the passenger seat right forward for extra room.
I remember it being a tight fit, I should have put some towels down, as the frame marked the seat cushions.

Hi, I wouldn’t dismiss the Thule route, I’ve had these fitted on and off for a while and carry a couple of bikes or a top box for touring.
If you bought a cargo mesh basket you could pack the bike flat down to reduce resistance.
An interesting snippet, I needed to tape the bars up as they aren’t true box sections as they have a groove running through them. Without the tape, the bars play ‘Crockett's Theme’ from Miami Vice as you go through the rev range, which is slightly unnerving if you forget they are fitted.
I will see how I fair tomorrow evening once I collect the car.
I'm hoping it'll all just fit.
I might look at the Thule solution and a roof box at some point later as well, the wife and two kids (9 and 7 yo) fit perfectly into the car, and a roof box would be ideal for a nice holiday somewhere down around Bergerac/Monbazillac. And I'll definitely note to tape up the bars.
