I'm thinking of selling the Boxster S and buying a 964 RS (or Noble M12).

It seems that buying one is a bit of a minefield...this forum has been a big help so far though.

Does anyone have any opinions on this car at Runnymede Motors in Penn? (www.runnymedemotorcompany.com)

Looks very tasty, but seems to be the very top of the price range. Does the RSR body make it more or less desirable?

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Cheers

Steve.

I've asked for more information about the car. From the web site, it isn't even clear if it is road registered.

A black RHD car is also available at top money - I guess they do tend to command a premium? I'd rather pay good money for an unmolested car though.

Autofarm have a RHD black car, 60,000 miles with bills for £15k this year (ouch). Seems pricey, and is RHD really worth any extra? They are asking around £37,500 for it...
I'd rather spend more on a good car than buy an old nail though.

Oldtimer, you've summed up my reasons for being interested in the RS perfectly. I had a Caterham 7 R500 for a while, and miss track days very much. A good 964 RS fits the bill perfectly and will be better suited to occasional road use than the (scary) R500. Although the Boxster is a fine car, I find it a little sterile and almost boring.

Noble or 964RS is a tricky decision. The Noble is more modern, faster, and easier to find. The 964 is far cheaper to run, but a far riskier purchase....both are superb cars but meet the same objective in a very different way.

Melv, I've emailed the owner of the LHD car but haven't had a reply as yet. On the face of it, it seems just what I'm after. I can't see the benefit of spending the extra on a car just because it is RHD.

A 2.5 Noble will be high 30's, a 3.0 mid 40's. lots of cash. And who knows about resale in a few years time?

I was lucky with the R500. I sold it long before it needed a rebuild, after having 2 completely trouble free years in a Superlight R. Great cars, not hugely practical though.

I see the RS as a (relatively) risky purchase as I'll have no warranty or factory backup on a 10 year old car that has been used 'enthusiastically'. I'm also slightly concerned about buying a nail, a fake or an unoriginal car. I know a decent pre-purchase inspection will reduce these risks, and that is exactly what I'll do.

RS is a more appealing buy at the moment. If the right car comes along at the right price, I'll buy it.

Ouch, in real terms £63k in 1992 is more like £90k today...makes a GT3 seem cheap.

Thanks for the tip about H&S, this is exactly the type of advice I need.
