Turns out there is another air filter inside each bank of intake system. You can see it in this picture below (black plastic item)

Unfortunately one filter was soaked in oil and the other cracked and the foam starting to break up so these will also be replaced.
Replacement filters for the intake manifold

Really only realised these needed replacing / are a service item because of wanting to paint the intake covers.

These things are not air filters. I would hasard a guess that Ferrari added these to dampen the noise caused by intake pulse waves as the trumpets are not far below... so noise filters perhaps. If you look down for these parts in the usual parts diagrams there is an interesting mention about them - "reduced consumption"...?

Reduced consumption. Interesting term biggrin
Filters something (maybe noise as you've pointed) and in need of replacement.

Interesting that they are USA and non USA model specific.

Item 4
'Plate' not all part numbers are marked reduced consumption

And no info on the web after a quick search.

Anyway, with the foam degrading, not something I want the engine to breathe

Cake! Help a brother out will ya?
Talk me into doing something stupid, I’ve been far too sensible of late. My life conversations have revolved around pretending interest in bathroom tiles and weird paint colours that random shades of white/cream but aren’t white or cream, as the wife has massacred the house.

I feel that you are the man to help me restore the balance in the universe…

Well all I can say is life is for living and who knows how much more we'll get to enjoy it.

So celebrate it with something stupid.

My latest folly is getting an LED steering wheel installed along with ma carbon paddles.

I managed to find a Ferrari breaker in Bulgaria and took a risk. Only to be caught by my own honesty at customs, I forgot we're no longer in Europe.

Final price was slightly more than a brand new one from Ferrari!

banghead

But it looks good and the LEDs all work and it didn't need a trip to Ferrari to allow it to work.

I also changed the LEDs to MA carbon, the same as the F1 car colours and shift sequence.

So what more to say?

Do something stupid and Escape.
Enjoy a Pina Colada and getting caught the rain as long as you not in your Ferrari with semi slicks
Take up yoga at our age and you don't need half a brain to do something stupid
Try not to get sand in your fanny while making love at midnight, it'll chaff
Ferrari is the love that you're looking for
Do something stupid and Escape

Hats off to you Cake. As someone who got nervous and sold his 599 after an eventful (and exasperating) 18 months, your car madness is something we should all truly aspire to! smile

I have been a little crazy about this car and I'm a stickler for the maintenance.

When I hobby raced bikes I saw the condition of some of the bikes and I knew if my bike was like that it would fail on me, that's my kind of luck

But I'm also stupid when it comes to not considering the costs. I'm often too motivated by shiny things.

SL550M I can see how it can be exasperating. I cancelled the carbobrake CCB disks due to production time only to find out Ferrari are not much better. Now I'm praying and fingers crossed that they arrive in time for Norway.

But all the frustration goes when I see her, sit in her and drive. Especially when she's V12 screaming!!

The kitten before, no tiles though

And now with the new splash back and down lights

My mum's reaction "that's an interesting choice"

I think it's disapproval

Because they're not Ferrari titles. No red colour. Maybe something a little different like this?

Or just leave the wife and go shopping for something stupid

Alexandra, what do you say?
By the way, what about your tiles?
