Were the new ad's introduced before the sale to pump up the revenue, or as soon as CG had ownership to cash in as quickly as possible, regardless of issues it may cause?
All existing ads were not sourced/sold by CG! We want to improve user experience now, rather than break things unnecessarily smile
Were, as in before it was sold? I don't follow.

Refreshing to see the UX is now a priority.

Hi all,

Hi,

I profusely apologise that this issue is still ongoing.

As you may or may not know, CarGurus has just completed the acquisition of PistonHeads! This means the future is looking bright and we'll be investigating all reported issues in the near future.

In the mean time, it would be very handy if you could keep providing screenshots and as much detail as possible.

Thank you.
I'm posting here rather than revive an old thread : I still intermittently get pages my browser says are unsecure.

Look at the (i) icon on the address bar (it should be a padlock) :

Clicking on the icon get this message :

Android phone using Opera browser from Australia.

I've pretty much given up browsing pistonheads when using my phone this past week. Totally unusable.

Same here, slow, and serves wrong pages in forums.

Same. Slow as st, and when it does decide to load it takes you to a random page. It's never an interesting page it takes you to either, it's always airplanes or roads!

Brave browser will fix that for you.

It's a bit of a pain needing another browser for just one website, but at least it's usable.

You could just use Brave alone, instead of Chrome/whatever? I've switched on both phone and desktop and it's great.

Yep, the issues are back. Was working fine with chrome for a few weeks, but have switched back to Brave

Jack, I’m afraid whatever you’re doing is not working. The useablilty is, frankly, appalling. Genuinely never had a website take so long to load that I can remember - certainly nothing in the last decade. It’s embarrassing.

And the answer is not to try another browser because PH can’t be bothered to sort their imcompetency out.

Get a grip please.

Are there any con's? I've been using Chrome for so long now, and I use Gmail, docs, back up and sync, google drive etc.

Brave doesn't support extensions, which is the biggest turn-off for me.

Great for mobile but no good for desktop imo.

We are working with Haymarket to look into performance issues with the site, and have taken steps to remove some of the advertising that can cause issues with page speed (outbrain, header bidders). This is only the start, and while the development still is done by Haymarket it is slower progress than we like.

It will take us a few weeks to transition across to the PistonHeads development team so bear with us as we get up to speed - but we will try and identify any quick wins to solve these problems. The nature of the code base and integrations means it will take time to improve performance, but it is a key goal over the first half of this year.

Surprised to see any further mention of Haymarket.

And six more months of poor performance. I reckon the users should have pretty much everyone transferred into an ad-free browsing environment by then hehe

PH still runs in Classic ASP, A technology that most normal developers stopped using 18 years ago. Would be surprised if any of the dev team at CarGurus has this skillset, or more accurately be surprised if anyone admits to it. I removed it from my CV years ago. We occasionally have to deal with a Classic ASP site at my place and whenever its mentioned all the senior devs start looking at the floor and ceiling, denying any knowledge of it.

It also grew out of someones head and has had bits welded onto it for years. There is probably little or no documentation on how the site works. The new devs are probably still staring at the codebase with open mouths, shaking their head :-)

Judging from RacingPete’s response he works for CarGuru now. He’s been working for PH since Haymarket bought the site from PetrolTed, so I’m pretty sure he knows how to work with Classic ASP.

And C-ASP devs are hardly tricky to find when you ask... It's a perfectly capable language.

That was my point. Any decent dev moved off Classic to .Net years ago and don't want to go back, ever. You get the occasional crusty old dev who refused to move with the times.

This website is freaking out my phone and telling me "page has become unresponsive" and taking ages to load.

Checked on my Mrs phone thinking mine was playing up and it's exactly the same.

Is there a solution to this? It's become almost unusable.

Use the browser called Brave. I've heard a website called Car Throttle that is supposed to be good. We could all go there I suppose.
