Exactly. It's my main browser on phone and PC now and it has thoroughly cleaned up my browsing. My local newspaper website, for example, was almost unreadable, even with Chrome and Adblock.

I boot up Chrome to access my Google Drive and keep Edge for dodgy Russian sites (so any browser infections stay in one place and can be dealt with).

I see having multiple browsers as a real benefit, but Brave is superb for 99% of my needs.

Working fine on iOS Safari on my iPhone now. Thanks for the fix!

I just had a look in Chrome, I don't think they have. It's still doing a setTimeout({}, 1) and using > 50% CPU for me.

They seem to have binned Outbrain, but it's still littered with slow-to-load ads.

We are working our way through the slow running scripts across the site as we transition tech from Haymarket - sorry it isn't as fast as you all would like but we have taken off Outbrain, removed Tealium (a tag manager which put a lot of JavaScript on the pages), and removed some of the header bidders so far.

Lots to do still...

Just to say thank you for removing outbrain!

I was happy with the small ads top, middle and bottom, but they went extreme. I have now stopped Ad Block Plus, if the ads stay decent, I am happy to see them.

We have removed some further code today:
  • we got rid of the Header Bidder Wrapper which adds some of the programmatic ads
  • changed the Ad Preferences so it is delivered in code instead of via a JS tag manager
  • Enabled compression across some of the dynamic assets (reduces size of the page download)
Still some more to go - but hopefully will help a little more as we have seen an decrease in page load times by 0.5 seconds with the changes so far.

Nothing happens when you click on the Advertising preferences which is now at the bottom of the page, so no change from before really.

Unless it's just me.

You might need to clear your cache/temp files?

I get the pop up box that lets me choose preferences. I don't yet know if they make a blind bit of difference, however.

I cleared my cache, oh vicar, a couple of days ago but it hasn't made any difference.

Didn't we have this discussion a few weeks back? From what I recall they've changed it in the back-end so that it doesn't do anything if you have ad blockers running. If you disable your ad blockers it then works and you can set your cookie and ad preferences.

Yes we did, so the same for the classifieds, you can view only if you disable your adblocker.

It will probably be the same for the forums soon.

I gave up bothering with it tbh. I don't see any ads when browsing due to the uBlock and Ad Block both running so no reason to go through the ad preferences check boxes, cookie policy etc. I delete all my cookies for the day when I close down my PC now too and am happy to tolerate the minor inconvenience of having to log in to my sites again next day.

That's the conclusion I have come to as well.

But if they are going to have a preferences click on, you would think when you click on it should work, and if you have to close your adblocker for it to work they should tell you when you click on.

It all seems a bit underhand to me.

We haven't changed anything around the way this works from what we inherited from Haymarket, apart from to remove it from being served through a tag manager and put the call into the code base on the page - so nothing underhand from our side - we need this to work on all pages so will work on fixes for this so it always shows and works.
