No more free PH ads?
Discussion
I always exhaust my free advertising options before paying. There is always gumtree, which is free, a lot of general automotive sites who offer free adverts, although I doubt you get the same traffic as PH. At least here there are sections specific to marque and model, whereas many sites offering free ads just dump your advert in with everything else and you continually get people bumping their advert to the top.
It is a shame the adverts on PH aren't free.

However an ad is only £9.99 for 28 days, so much better value than, ahem, some other sites you might choose to advertise on...
Cheers,
Stuart
That's debatable. Cheers,
Stuart
Compared to autotrader and ebay it was cheaper and the buyers more serious.
I sold two cars in the past 3 years. Both on PH as a premium ad, both also on Autotrader. Same asking price (the PH one for my RX8 was more than competitive, whereas on AT it was asking for too much if you compared other adverts). First car- no PH calls, but sold in a week on AT. Second car (the RX8)- 4 calls on AT, none on PH.
There was a third car, but that was only advertised on Autotrader (and sold very quickly).
In my experience, spending £10 on AT for a 14 day advert is better than spending £10 on 28 days for PH. The length of the advert is not an issue- my cars sold well within the 14 day period. I wouldn't spend money on a PH advert unless it was a specific car that would benefit (kit and bike-engined cars spring to mind as one such example- PH is better for these).
One of my favourite things about looking at classifieds is being able to hunt for absolute bargains, and/or cars in need of some TLC. So my personal view is that cars of a certain value should cheaper (ideally free). This would be much better value-for-money, would increase site traffic and would provide a bigger selection of SOTW candidates (less need to link to other websites!).

AT's search engine is a bit of genius too, narrowing down to mileage, colour, distance and a host of specifics, all nicely presented design wise and rarely glitchy. There was a third car, but that was only advertised on Autotrader (and sold very quickly).

I used to buy AT every week before it went online, that for me was an evenings or two reading material, at one point it came with a glossy mag specifically for prestige marques, I am not sure if it still does. Nowadays it's a hobby to go on there of an evening with an imaginary budget.
Stuart / Garlick - are the free adverts still available to those of us who have been on the site for a certain period of time?
If so, does the "free" option make itself known when the ad is being processed? Or is it a case of paying then getting a refund. Not sure if anything has changed since the "old" classifieds have re-appeared.
Thanks.

Yes, you're entitled to a free ad, provided that you're logging in with a classified account tied to your forum login? If so, does the "free" option make itself known when the ad is being processed? Or is it a case of paying then getting a refund. Not sure if anything has changed since the "old" classifieds have re-appeared.
Thanks.
When you go through the process it should be fairly clear.

Hi, on my previous account I'm sure I posted a free ad for my car before. I'd like to again but can't remember my old username and it only emails me a new password when I request a new one. Any ideas how I can get my old account back or post a free ad from this account?
Cheers.
Send me a PM with any email addresses linked to your old account and I'll try and track it down.Cheers.

I still dont get free ads even though i have been on here for around 7 years albeit with a different login?
If you have a different login, let us know what it is. However you'll need to abandon this one and go back to your other login - dual profiles are not allowed.I was asked which one I wanted to keep and went with the new one as i never envisaged i would have this issue whereby the old one would have kept my free ads and the newer one leaves me without.

OK, well I'm sorry about that but there's nothing I can do I'm afraid.I was asked which one I wanted to keep and went with the new one as i never envisaged i would have this issue whereby the old one would have kept my free ads and the newer one leaves me without.
