PH Pre-Sale Heads-up/First Refusal
Discussion
I am selling my car at the moment and was pondering on the rules on here regarding linking or telling all and sundry about our advert.
We also all know how much care and attention we give our cars and the respect we have for each other for that. I would happily buy a car unseen from a PHer as I understand the emotion and knowledge that has been put on their car.
The popularity of the bargain basement thread, 1-5k thread et al also inspired me to come to the following suggestion...
Why do we not have a PH Classifieds 'heads-up' forum or sticky for PHers to let other PHers know that they will be selling their P and J? We are all members here and (some of us) enjoy certain privileges regarding the classifieds already. Surely it'd be good practice to allow our fellow members a period of notice when advertising our cars...almost like a preferred providers scheme.
I know that it could possibly allow lurkers and non-members to grab an advantage but there must also be a way of filtering them out?
What are your thoughts?
(PS - if this goes well can I have the honour of starting the thread?
)

)I'm guessing a certain person would report quoting rule 6 http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/rules.htm
If you just had one thread for all the 'heads-up' posts, it would simply be a classifieds in disguise.
I don't suppose that PH Towers will be relaxing the general 'no advertising' rule anytime soon, but I do think that an amendment to it, allowing members to mention (and link to) their cars for sale in the forums, for which they have a bona fide advertisement in the PH classifieds.
This would be eminently sensible e-nepotism.

An alternative would be able to filter the classifieds for those ads linked to PH profiles.
I would also prefer to buy a car from a fellow PHr.
That could work.I would also prefer to buy a car from a fellow PHr.

This is a good idea actually. It would be good if it was limited to active members to stop it being abused.
Agreed, it may also lead to people spending more time updating their garage profile re running costs and documenting work done and before and after pics etc.Just thinking though, there are a lot of high quality lurkers out there who don't post much but have a keen passion for their motor...

Why not add a dedicated forum thread to each ad, like the one that exists for each car in your profile Garage? Then a particular ad can be discussed by the owner and interested parties without cluttering up the forums.
Forum thread for each car in your garage? Am I missing something? If it doesn't exist that would be a brilliant idea, as there does seem to be some duplication between the readers rides forum and the garage function.
