Why was my thread closed? 'Looking for a Griffith'

Posted yesterday, in the Griffith section 'Looking for a Griffith'. Few posts today, just went on to look, and the topic has been closed, why?

Just had an email saying wanted ads aren't allowed. I did try an ad in the wanted ads, but instantly I was at the bottom behind dealers, and had no response in 3 weeks, less than a day of the thread and I had a response, which is now deleted. Thanks pistonheads staff.

Perhaps if you started a thread about what to look for when buying a Griff you could abide by the rules and achieve the same goal?

On a forum where no one else is allowed to post a wanted or for sale advert because they have been the rules ever since Ted started Pistonheads (I would have thought the absence of any adverts on the forums would have been a clue) why do you feel you are entitled to post one?

Entitled to your opinion, but the wanted ads clearly don't work, as I say no response in 3 weeks, a forum post and a response within a day.

I get the whole no for sale ads otherwise it would get littered with ads, but wanted I really don't see why that's such a problem, if it's a personal post not a dealer. Maybe the rules should change!

The point that Mr. Drift is making is that the forums would be a much worse place if they were filled up with wanted ads from every Tom, Dick & Harry who needs a Griffith, spark plugs for an Escort or a sequential gearbox for their Mum's Micra. There is a place for them: the classifieds section; no need to put them in the forums.

To be honest I have to disagree, you seem to be missing the point that the ads clearly don't work.

As a private individual, your ad drops right down to the bottom of the dealers, and I don't really think sellers or someone considering selling check the classified wanted ads. Yes, when the site was less dealer orientated maybe they did, but not now.

I used to swear by pistonheads classifieds, but the last few years I've had no success here, my sales have all been made on other forums with posts, or eBay!! If there is a wanted post you don't have to read it if you don't want to....

And not only is Mr Drift "entitled to his opinion" but apn is entitled to Mr Drift's opinion also given that Mr Drift is a mod and at 185 months that would be known?

You should have advertised for a "4 litre V8S engine wanted" with the proviso it had the rest of a Griffith wrapped round it.

Why can posters advertise for parts wanted and not cars in the TVR section? Not having a pop at the guy asking for the engine, but it smacks of inconsistency yet again.

Parts wanted, are at this point in time are allowed, that's not to say it won't change when the revised rules of posting will be issued. Vehicle wanted's over the years just turn into "Mines for Sale" type threads giving links, car spec's and the like. So we were told by Haymarket to remove them.

You may see the odd car wanted in the motorsport forum, because those were deemed to be few and far between and in a very specialised market.

Again the moderation of these types of thread are at the request of the site owners, we as mods just enforce those requests.

Funny I thought that when I saw this thread after mine was deleted, I just didn't mention it as I didn't want this guy to have his deleted!

Yep, I understand the mods have to follow the rules (where do we find these rules?).

It's then up to us as the users that make the forums, to question these rules. I can't see though how in one forum 'motorsport' you can yet in others not, surely a rule is a rule or is it not?

I think the crux is exact,y as you said, 'you were told by haymarket to remove them', they want the revenue from ads...
