A serious question.

Sometime padlocks are applied because the thread is not going anywhere, and perhaps the tone of the conversation is not 'family friendly'.

Other times the padlock is applied to a nonesense thread, such as those just closed. What I wanted to ask was, why do these get closed? Could they not be given time to evolve into a conversation? I presume the only reason these get closed is to keep some kind of order on the amount of new topics being opened? Or maybe just to save server space?

I had a quick search, but couldn't find the rules behind threads being padlocked. Although you kind of get a feel when they will. What are the rules as to threads being locked? And how many do get locked across PH in the course of a week on average?

I keep seeing padlocks applied and removed here today.

Is there a locksmith in the house?

For crying out loud guys, you're purposely trying to get it shut down, I was trying for a serious answer.

To add to Gazboy, not keeping to these will normally get a locking Banning or deleting Posting Rules

We do get this question asked every few months. It might seem heavy handed at times but it's the same policy that has been used for the last 7+ years.

I believe it's helped make the Gassing Station a huge success rather than hinder its growth.

Thanks, the link to the rules was what I was interested in, couldn't find it!

Not that I'm wanting to flout them in any way. Was just curious as to why it appeared some subjects erring towards dodgy ground were allowed, and others were not.

As a note, superb site, well managed, all points noted. thumbup

Consistency is very difficult to achieve and despite our best efforts it's the most complained about item
