I recall from one of his older videos he said his max budget was 120k. I wonder if he got it for that?
If/when nearly new 540cs start coming into the 110-120k price point I think it's going to be a very desirable and attainable car for many.
This. Merc amg, pork 911 etc or a McLaren! I know where I would spend my money ....if I had the that sort of money... If/when nearly new 540cs start coming into the 110-120k price point I think it's going to be a very desirable and attainable car for many.
Better to be at the bottom of the higher brand than the top of the lower brand.
As we have all done in our yuff you are impatient to get your first supercar and with the benefit of hindsight feel he would of been better off in a proper supercar with the 12C given his budget even though the 540C is a great sports car

Supercar you say, this is pretty much supercar performance in anyone's book I would say considering two wheel drive and a damp track:As we have all done in our yuff you are impatient to get your first supercar and with the benefit of hindsight feel he would of been better off in a proper supercar with the 12C given his budget even though the 540C is a great sports car

I love the look of the 540C but I think I'd have gone for a 12C Spyder if it had been my money.As we have all done in our yuff you are impatient to get your first supercar and with the benefit of hindsight feel he would of been better off in a proper supercar with the 12C given his budget even though the 540C is a great sports car
I'd go for a new 540C over a 12C too. The 540C is the best value supercar on sale today, it's staggeringly good IMO.
And as much as I love the 12C, the 540 looks better, has newer tech and I really wouldn't miss the extra horses day to day, especially as there's no chance in hell that the 540 is only producing 540hp. In my experience the 570 is putting out 570 at the wheels I reckon, nearer 600 at the fly.

Interestingly McLaren themselves have a 12c for sale for £128k with 4000 miles on it;

I think I would have gone for that instead. I love the 12C looks a lot more than the new 540.

You seriously think the 570 has only 5% difference between wheel and crank hp.......?
Sorry was rushing a bit earlier. That made little sense as you rightly point out. I more mean that it feels like it has at least 30bhp more than claimed. It obliterated a Huracan over wusrter mile reoatedky, which simply shouldn't happen. Same with the 675LT really, far faster than the numbers suggest.

There is a vid on Supercars of London where he tests a 570 GT back to back with a 540 an he said he couldn't tell the difference.And as much as I love the 12C, the 540 looks better, has newer tech and I really wouldn't miss the extra horses day to day, especially as there's no chance in hell that the 540 is only producing 540hp. Interestingly the McLaren guy sat in the passenger seat agreed that the 540 would be pretty easy to tune so I can't imagine it would be too difficult to get the missing 30 horses back if you really wanted to. I can't imagine that for road use you would ever need them though.
I really like the spec on STG's car (green wrap aside). I don't get the whole 'get as much carbon fibre' as you can thing at all. A bit in the interior is nice as it lifts the look of the cabin but I can't see the point in it on the exterior. Just likely to get chipped / damaged and is then expensive to replace. As for carbon engine bays why pay £££ so the mechanic has something a bit nicer to look at come service time?

The pea green colour on that 540C is a wrap? That would be the first thing I'd change/remove. Fair play to the chap though on his new purchase. He always seems very enthusiastic about cars on his vlogs.

The carbon really is lovely and quality hence the price which is expensive and other than visual doesn't make any difference.Interestingly the McLaren guy sat in the passenger seat agreed that the 540 would be pretty easy to tune so I can't imagine it would be too difficult to get the missing 30 horses back if you really wanted to. I think its also colour related as well. I saw a blade silver ( greyish colour ) 570S today with all palladium finished plastic bits and it really worked well with the colour combo and probably better than carbon itself as less of a black contrast.
IF I was to buy a blade silver car or a black car I would not want to pay all the extra for the carbon garnish.
Some other colours especially white maybe I would
