Huge favour to ask.

Hullo all.
My stepdad is an absolute diamond. Petrolhead through and through, has done various rallies and events, has a few nice cars, and above all is forever doing favours for everyone else.
He let slip that he would really like a ride out in a modern Mclaren. MrsSE and I would really like to arrange this for him, just to say thanks for a lot of things.
Before we look at dealers or experience day, is there anyone in the Co.Durham/ Teesside/ Yorkshire area that would be willing to give up a bit of their time? We will of course make it well worth your while!

I like the sound of that - I'm always wary of "experience days" - was it any good?
I'm not a big fan of them, you are treated like cattle ad get about 90 seconds driving the car with extremely restricted conditions ie no overtaking, can't go over 4000 RPM etc. Waste of time and money IMEI did the Everyman racing’s experience at TG track about a month ago.
5 cars for about £140. Gallardo, Nissan GTR, 458 Italia, Audi R8 and Ariel Atom.
You got 4 laps (about 6 miles) per car as fast as you could make it go. You could overtake but only when safely advised by the other car, there were no throttle restrictions, you were encouraged to go to red line but they told you when to change up.
Only restriction was you could only use 5th and 6th Gear in the Atom once you got it up to speed, as that was more than enough for most drivers and such a close box you’d likely put it into the wrong gear and spin it if you were using all the box.
Fantastic day out. Good value for money. I too was sceptical but they did well..

What was your favourite?Of the others, I enjoyed the gallardo most as it was a convertible which I think made a big difference over a coupe for atmosphere. I didn’t get the best out of the Italia or the GTR, but the R8 was total pants.
TG track won’t be available next year as they are building on it so get it done now!
Nice simple track easy to learn which is important on such a short drive.
Did 28 laps in all, paid for some extra drives.
If you want to drive top cars like aventador, mclarens pork GT3 RS etc you usually have to pay a supplement. But probably worth it.

As a further endorsement, Everyman were very good when I drove a Nissan GT-R and my Mum drove a Porsche 911 turbo. No restrictions on rev limits, no restrictions on speed, no restrictions on overtaking and all in all a good experience.
The only downside was that it's quite a popular event (mine was at Dunsfold Park, TG track) so can be a little busy but get there early and you'll be fine.
I can also vouch for the Everyman experience at Dunsfold. Also done one at Prestwold too. Drove a 458, Gallardo, R8 V10, Supercharged Atom.
They do encourage you to go as fast as you like, if you can drive. You have to remember a lot of the other people there are only there to say they
have 'driven' a Lamborghini, or whatever. Some have no interest in driving fast. You are encouraged to get past those if you are a competent driver.
As mentioned above, the Atom is like nothing else. Mega-quick (or at least feels it as you are sat outside) and at Prestwold you won't even get it
into 6th up the main straight.
Other rides are generally 50-60 for 4 laps in most cars on the day. You can mix and match with your existing experience package.

Big thumbs up for Everyman too I’ve driven a Gallardo 6spd manual and a 12c and they encouraged me to go as fast as possible at elvington!
Off the top corner and down the straight the 458 gunned it and so did I in the 12c not only did it out accelerate him the instructor said just miss the slowing down chicane and carry on! Over 170 was had (bought the memory stick video for future reference too 😁
