Thanks guys, I'm properly made up with this.

I think you were just unlucky.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with earlier 720s’s. It’s a bit of a myth, to coin a phrase that they were somehow Friday afternoon builds as most 2018 cars with red ticks are equally bestowed with similar build quality to 2019 cars. No verifiable discernible difference In fact.

I do though concede that 2020 cars seem to be better sorted or possibly too early to tell yet
I do accept that I was probably unlucky to an extent with my first 720S last year. Even though it was an early one, so much went wrong that if it were more typical, I suspect there'd be far more instances of uproar about it.

Also, this time last year I don't think it was generally known, by McLaren dealers or others, that faulty accumulators (that good old Citroen technology laugh) were the source of many evils and errors on these cars. It's now better understood that a change of accumulators can fix many issues. Indeed, when McLaren eventually replaced the accumulators on my previous one, it immediately fixed a number of the issues (namely 2 different suspension faults and airbrake fault).

All that said, there is a perceptible difference in quality between my very early car and this newer 2019 car. Yes it could be placebo however I know just about enough on how to poke around these so I have seen a few bits under the skin where it's definitely constructed better. Panel gaps around the car are all spot on too, which can't be said of most early cars. Then there's the fact that McLaren dealers (at least the two I typically deal with) are also adamant they can't install the latest software, as fitted to MY19> cars, on the older cars. There must be some reason why this is the case.

Finally I'm not even talking about the difference between red and silver tick cars. I'm talking about very early 2017 cars (those typically labelled 'launch edition') versus anything later; those early cars do have a pretty bad reputation and it's one of those that I had last year.

So I've been watching the prices of 720's drop into increasingly tempting territories for a while now but seeing a couple of Mclaren orange ones in and around Oxfordshire over Salon Prive weekend has finally tipped me over the edge and I'm starting a search for one.

Lovely car Palmball, beautiful colour. I had seen that one when I was looking but I really wanted a mankini interior, it was in my must have's column smile Hope you're enjoying the new ownership experience as much as I am! (stupid comment, of course you are!) Although sounds like you've been here before!

Do it!! I cannot describe just how good these cars are, on so many different levels!

All of this excitement has changed my mind about selling mine now.

I have a 720s in MSO Burton Blue with a list price which was near to £300k, ouch! for the chap I bought it off .

It has been a reliable and solid car with only a couple of glitches. It turns heads, is ludicrously quick and imo looks brilliant.

I did think with all the negative press around McLaren and the state of the country that I would sell it in October but actually now the opposite.

Perhaps not a long term keeper but it does everything so effortlessly that nothing could replace it.

Good to hear of other folks enjoying their 720s !

A shame you get influenced by such external factors.

I don't care about these stuff, If I like the car and I am happy with performance and reliability, then it's a keeper.
I don't see a replacement atm honestly.

Obviously, unless you need to sell it because need money.

Good decision. Out of curiosity, what exactly would you buy instead? As I've mentioned, I had one last year and for one reason or another it didn't work out....but since no other car really interested me like the 720S. It's been ruinous to any excitement or passion I have in pretty much anything else!

Thanks AstonExige, yes this seems to be a real good'un so am thoroughly enjoying it.

I've have been here before but, this time, with this car, I do seem able to properly enjoy it. My first proper road trip in it will be the weekend next week where a few of us are heading out to Wales (so far, the two day route seems to avoid the lockdown regions so hopefully that's still the case next week!)

It's funny reading your thread; I've just come in from a 20 mile drive and am buzzing about how extraordinarily capable, fun and satisfying this car is and then I read your update and you put it all into words so well. You inspire me to do my own write up but you're doing such a good job I actually don't think I could explain it better!

I do quite a bit of track work and mainly use a more track focussed car. I would though like to do a few in my Mac. I think the 720s is a great track car but a bit expensive on the consumables, particularly the discs.

I have considered swapping the discs and stock pads for the Surface Transform discs with Pagid pads. Quite a substantial investment but better than having to replace the OEM parts.

In answer to your question though, probably a 600LT or even a 620R at some stage, although both of these aren’t at their best on road for my taste.

Looks like the actual owners of 720’s are enjoying ownership, it’s great to read and I’ll definitely be in the market again for 1 in March

Ahh fair enough; the 600 or 620 are probably even more appropriate for track work although the consumables will be as much. Much like you're considering, I'd definitely be doing something with the brakes if I was regularly tracking mine (for cost, not performance mainly) but hopefully they're robust enough for 1-2 per year.

720S is an awesome car. Best car I've ever owned.

I am selling mine, but only to get another McLaren next year (as I can't seem to find anything better).

I’ve was torn between GT3 RS and 720 as much as I love Porche and they’re pretty much bullet proof , come with a 2 year warranty and my local dealer is 1 mile away , the 720 appeals much more even though my local dealer is a boat trip away !! But I love turbocharged big powered cars !!

If you could send me details too please

Thanks both, appreciate the interest but it won't for sale for a year yet. After summer.

Because my 765LTS will likely arrive late 2021.
