Well here it is - the 720S
Discussion
I viewed the 720S at McBrum yesterday. Thank you Ian Groves for the invitation.
The car was on a rotating turntable and as there were only a few people there early on it was possible to stand back and observe its various facets from a distance before looking more closely at the detail. The car was mid grey maybe Saros with a light interior which worked well I thought. Of course, the grey exterior meant the various openings and apertures rather blended in, the headlight opening was trimmed in carbon which also helped lose that particular design feature. How well that would work in the metal with for example Memphis Red I’m not sure, it certainly doesn’t work for me on the configurator.
Some of the aero makes the side detailing rather fussy and though we have seen this sort of thing before I think others have dealt with the same aerodynamic issues in a less contrived manner. I don’t like the doors but then I didn’t like them on the 650S and prefer conventional opening. The doors appeared to be fixed to the T bar so quite how a Spider version would work I’m not sure.
The interior looked very smart and an improvement on 12C/650S. I didn’t sit in the car but the instruments on show looked better than its predecessor. Switches seem to have replaced buttons for PD&R, and IRIS is now more upright and therefore less likely to reflect the sky in a spider version. I just hope the mapping has improved.
I showed the photos to Mrs Lowndes who thought it looked just like the previous car.
On balance, I didn’t see a pressing reason to place an order at this point in time but I shall watch with interest and wish early adopters well.

Isaldiri, as a matter of interest have you seen the car in the flesh? I have along with quite a few yesterday, and all I spoke to thought the car looked fabulous overall. Nobody said the front look anything but great. Undoubtedly for me the best view, which most will see is the rear, but I think the frot is clever, and attractive! All a matter of opinion, but as all of those who have seen the car , it looks much better in the flesh.
No I haven't, aiming to do so on Saturday at Ascot. I think the car will look better in the metal yes as most Mclarens do (well not the F1 that looks great in photos and in person) but it doesn't take away from the fact that imo the design of the front especially is overly fussy and smacks of the design team trying too hard. Simplicity unfortunately seems to be a virtue lost on modern car designers.stoatage17 said:
Hi Matt,I am going to Geneva tomorrow, I love the Glacier White, but want to see it in the flesh, seems to have a silver/blue tint. They have a car in that colour there, or the volcano yellow, starting with the performance.]
I'm at a geneva now. The Glacier White car is stunning, looks far better than the MSO red or the orange. And it does indeed have a tint of blue to it.foxsasha said:

Hi Foxsasha, thanks for the information, My last Mclaren was Silica white, good, but too white (if that makes sense!) The Glacier looks great in the swatch, and I think its a great contrast to the c/f and dark gray/black bits. It is probably the colour for me, but yellow also contrasts so well with the dark gray/carbon as well. I can't wait to see it in glacier . Everyone to their own, but I can't see the point of black, no contrast!stoatage17 said:

Well you aren't a well heeled Drug dealer are you? So no you wouldn't want black - it hides all the intricate design points so in my eyes is a silly colour to have on the car.
Unless your the type of person that cars all have to be black of course...
Will be interested to see close up photos of the white 720 on the stand and how it compares to your silica white car before.

Beware of wrapping a McLaren, the paint will delaminate when you remove it
But of course Mclaren Automotive will deny it was their fault, even though the factory fitted stone chip protector also pulls off the paint
You have been warned and an Elite colour repaint of isn't cheap.
Evidence please, I have seen a number of McLarens that have had some type of wrap but have never heard of any having issues during removalBut of course Mclaren Automotive will deny it was their fault, even though the factory fitted stone chip protector also pulls off the paint

who removed the film? doesnt sound right to me! But of course Mclaren Automotive will deny it was their fault, even though the factory fitted stone chip protector also pulls off the paint

Call me old-fashioned if you will but I reckon this would look amazing in some dark metallic green (Volcano Green anyone?) with clear wheels and black calipers, notwithstanding the headlight sockets.
That's a British car after all and I don't understand why anything else than the teeth-shattering "mint" green is the only shade of green currently offered in the catalogue.

and that Sir is what McLaren Special Operations (MSO) is for to fleece you of even more money for a 'bespoke' paint - they're quite clever like that! Who'd have thought it? That's a British car after all and I don't understand why anything else than the teeth-shattering "mint" green is the only shade of green currently offered in the catalogue.

Avoiding doing any real work today.... That's a British car after all and I don't understand why anything else than the teeth-shattering "mint" green is the only shade of green currently offered in the catalogue.
I would be interested what peoples thoughts are on whether they would opt for the glass roof, black roof, or carbon roof?
To me a big part of the car is the glass roof to open the light in the cabin - but appreciate some wont want the excess weight and higher COG that the glass brings...
