Am I mad to look at a Mclaren instead of a Porsche 911?

Agree with them they’ll do one week end each. Honestly, kids will love it. 911 is just a normal coupe.
I remember watching / listening to an account of a mother ,who after the Tsunami in Thailand, was stuck in fast moving waters holding on to her 2 children. She could not hold on to both but knew if she let either one go, that would result in their death. Her words was how. do do you decide who to let go?I know this is not as dramatic but it would genuinely break my heart if both wanted to come with and I could only take one with me . I would rather just take another car tbh than face that decison .
So maybe the solution is buy both or just buy the Mclaren and use it as just for myself.
Until wee Nioola eases the lockdown and allows garages to open again so I can test drive both and see what suits me . All I know is thanks to you the possibility of owning a Mclaren is not as mad as I thought I was going to be, as long as you get one with a warranty and it is well looked after it should not cost too much more run than a 911
Thanks guys

Not a McLaren owner but have had many Porsches including 911s.
On the other hand, I do tend to agree with the statement that a McLaren is a supercar and a Porsche is not, ( apart from the CGT/918).
I am just very used to Porsches and drive one almost every day. I am not a huge fan of the appearance of the McLaren, which is of course purely a matter of taste and not a reflection against the car. My general Porsche experience with lots of hard driving and tracking is that they are tough, reliable cars by and large.
Follow your gut instinct...I doubt if you will be disappointed by either choice.

I think that is the same conclusion I have come to ( except I think they are absolutely beautiful and the 12C is a future classic )
Glad we are on the same wavelength
Ok need your help guys.
Can you post any links for any decent 540C / 570s / 570 Gt for sale .
Mileage not major factor as long as not stupid high. But can you tell mw what is considered high mileage so I don't put my foot in it please
Condition and history very important no accident repaired please
Any colour but NOT black please unless it is an exceptional car, nightmare to look after. Green or Blue ideally but will consider any colour
Location not an issue will travel
Budget anything up to £85K but must have Mclaren warranty or be able to get a Mclaren Warranty as part of deal
Ideally 2017 upwards ( mate pushing it but see a few cars at this age or newer at my price point or slightly lower )
Hit me with what you can find out there as work is so busy I am struggling to get time to look
No hurry but at the same time ready to go for the right car

Honestly, are you buying a car for you? Then it’s the most important part of the experience, late nights and find it on your own. Come here for advices once you’ve found something. ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
So busy at work so usually working 8 am to 3am ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Genuinely not got time to trawl through lots of ads and then miss an order deadline as that would be harmful to my business

You will be better with a super series car, a 12C spider is within your budget, will depreciate less? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202...
That is sweet. Never thought of a 12C Spyder.Seems to be a few 570S & GT and 540C around £80K
Happy to wait till winter / year if I have to as work so busy no time to enjoy one even if I managed to get one
Going to have a look at these hopefully this weekend

Not sure I like the colour of either nor the Wheel design of the first one , but I do like them both otherwise so it would be good to see both together etc

That white 570 has been there forever, I messaged about this a couple of months ago and the guy immediately (in his first response) offered it to me for £76k so bare that in mind if you decide that's the direction you want to go ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Thanks yes it seems white is not the best colour and those wheels are not to mis taste . But could be a good car if the price is right. Are you sure it was £76K and not £86 as that is a big drop from the £90k asking price . ( personally I though £90k was a bit much for this)![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Thanks for the heads up

Was the price always £90k for it? Thats a pretty huge discount of £14k off the bat. I wouldn't have the balls to offer that low if I walked into a dealership let alone expect a dealership just to whack that big a chunk of the asking price for me ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
It s possible as the same garage advertised a lovely duck egg blue 570GT for 79K not sure what it sold for ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
But yes £14K is a big drop but then £90K seems over priced for this car compared to others

Was not expecting to find another Peterhead local on the McLaren forum! I don't have one to let you have a go of unfortunately just someone who aspires to own one at some point. Good luck finding the right car.
I think there a few people from around Aberdeen o here. What model you looking to get ?

I think there is a market for all McLarens...nothing looks like them or goes like them; you just need to have an open mind and be willing to put the negativity aside and find out how they are yourself.
Due to their age, the 12c and 650 are starting to find the sweet spot of where their value lies; the depreciation won't be £10000+ a year moving on.
The 5 series are newer and mostly still under original warranty, however there are more of them about so we don't yet know where their sweet spot regards to value might be.
All are stunning with amazing presence, so no right or wrong car to go for.
Its strange, as up until about 18mths ago the 12c just didn't do anything for me, but now it is very appealing; this 12c at Alistair Bolls in my eyes looks lovely, and it seems impossible that it would lose more than 10% of its current ask price within 12mths.. but what do i know?!

I totally agree the 12C id again well and if Mclaren offer a discounted service programme they will be well maintained. Due to their age, the 12c and 650 are starting to find the sweet spot of where their value lies; the depreciation won't be £10000+ a year moving on.

The wing mirrors on the look so coolant worth the asking alone for .
That yellow Spider does look nice . I personally think they will settle at £60k for a coupe and after that depreciation will be dictated by mileage / condition rather than age
Lets see how they are in 1 years time
