Looked at getting into McL ownership apart from running costs which are high for warranty and services .Went to AIB and got a quote of £1600 and I am a senior with 20+ NCD and only 3 points insisted on tracker and a £1500 Xcess It was back to replacement value if written off .I doubt any standard insurance will give you current value in the event of write off not for a premium of £650 unless I am wrong .
To add my 650s to my Aviva multi car policy , cost me about £200 ( the total we pay for a Mini JCW, old crap Volvo v70 and the Mclaren is circa £750)woodysnr said:

Try NFU. My 650S Spider was only ~£600 per year, no tracker required. Can use McLaren for all repairs etc.hosedoctor said:
Thanks for the replies chaps,i will look into it a bit more before i pay anything. I have to say im having trouble getting my head round this,£650 to insure a £165,000 car? My Navara is more to insure and its a 11 reg pickup truck! Lol
Your Navara will likely spend more time on the road hence bigger risk of a claim.Supercars are very seldom stolen as they are so visible.
You will take more care with a 160k supercar than a daily beater.
You likely won't take it out if there is adverse weather conditions.
etc. etc..
Going back to an earlier point about batteries...they are Lithium-ion so no liquids to run dry. A normal lead acid car battery is design only for light discharge but high current draw and tend to last about 3-4 years when the cold weather normally kills an old battery. The Lithium-ion battery should last 3-4 times longer than this and should be able to withstand deep discharge without any damage. I would suggest that if they do discharge rapidly then there is some external load like a tracker unit fitted or some sort of electrical short circuit. There could also be a few faulty from new batteries...bear in mind the older cars are 6 (?) or more years old now so the technology was not as advanced.
When my car is out of use I keep it on constant trickle charge with the McLaren charger so it is always in tip top condition...tough wood I`ll have no problems.
I wouldn't pay £2000 for a replacement battery either...I`d be gobsmacked if you can`t get an equivalent replacement for £1k or less...its a 12v battery at the end of the day.

One thing I have noticed when I opened the roof is that there was a fair bit of condensation on the inside of the rear panel that lifts up? It is cold in our garage (we are peasants and haven't got a heated garage) is this a common problem?
Yes - I noticed mine had some water/condensation after I jet washed it . Not sure exactly how water tight that area is supposed to be. Probably the reason they supply the two water proof bags (in the inside of the cover) , if you intend to use the space to store stuff.Wilmslowboy said:

I've never experienced it in 3 years of owning mine and I wash it after virtually every time I drive it.RamboLambo said:
